Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Written for a younger reader
Revisado: 12-11-19
The storyline had great promise. But the story and the narrator production was more in line with tween to teen reader. I liked it enough to finish it, but not one I'll ever go back to.
The ending was very unrealistic. I won't go into too much detail because I don't want to spoil it. But the doctor could have said... wait a minute, let me go get a pill, give it a few minutes and you'll change your mind.

When the main character returns to a place where she is hated she does not address it really. It's like... Oh well, it wasn't my fault and the story goes on. The preacher's belief's do not reflect bible teachings, especially a Mennonite preacher. It's pretty much an unrealistic sappy love story

Could have been great

This book grabbed me in the first two chapters! Then... each chapter repeated itself by using different scenarios using the main character's flashbacks. The author took on a subject that, in today's society, needs to be taken on and taken seriously. I wanted the heroine to be strong! But she comes across weak in most places. Yes, she's fighting for her life and has been her whole life. But the plot got lost in drudgery, again, each chapter steeped in pity the heroine felt for herself. I finally skipped chapters to get to the climax it was building to only to be disappointed at the main characters failure to impress. I expected her to tell her story, be strong on the stand! But she blew it, admittedly. I wanted to champion her, admire her! This book had so much potential. But a modern day Miss Jane Pittman she is not. In fact Miss Jane would probably have been disappointed in her drowning in self pity.

This is just a good old fun read. I loved it when I was younger and even more now that I'm their age. I wish I could join the club!
The narrator does an excellent job of defining characters and projecting the appropriate mood.

A real page turner

Most books of this kind you can usually figure out who, what, when and where within the first few chapters. This one keeps you looking for it...... Very well written, the story line moves at a steady pace. The ending was not at all what I expected but in fact more plausible. My only very minimal complaint is the narration in some parts. As with many books nowadays, the reader has a consistent melancholy drone. I'm so glad actors don't use the same tone in every scene of their movies or I'd have to give them up!
All in all - Good Read - worth the money.

Enticing story/bad performance
Revisado: 06-11-14
What made the experience of listening to Flowers in the Attic the most enjoyable?
I've read this series before a very long time ago. The reader takes a lot away from the story. It is a sad story however you can't always have a woebegone voice when depicting characters and situations. Can you imagine this as a play or movie and every line the actors say is full of dread? Very, very bad performance
Would you be willing to try another one of Alyssa Bresnahan’s performances?
