a wise and gentle guide
Revisado: 10-27-20
I struggled with Jon Kabat-Zinn's accent and voice, but I can't imagine anyone else narrating the book - he was the right choice. I am still pondering some of the ideas he presented, and am trying to punctuate my day with periods of mindfulness. The work Kabat-Zinn does is honorable, and I am thankful for the many books like this that he has written. Thank you for writing it, and for the audio version.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

listened to it twice
Revisado: 10-27-20
I really enjoyed this story. I know nothing about Alien the movie, and am one of the rare folk who's never watched it. So for me the entire concept was new and fresh. I loved this audiobook. The story was so captivating - and I immediately listened to it a second time. Second listens are great because you get so much detail that you missed the first time. Yes, I enjoyed Alien very much... and I am now keen to watch the original 1979 movie.

the author-narrator was fabulous
Revisado: 10-27-20
I immediately listened to this audiobook a second time. My husband is a veteran who served in Afghanistan. This audiobook helped me to understand a subject area which he is reluctant to talk about. It was a painful story, with many instances of awful graphic detail that could not be left out. From my non-military perspective I found the story and narration to be honest. I especially appreciated that the author was the narrator. I can't imagine anyone else doing the job as credibly as he did. Thank you for writing this book, and creating an audio version.

Revisado: 10-27-20
There is so much covered in this audiobook. It's incredibly interesting. If it wasn't for the length of this book I would have immediately listened again to give myself a better chance of taking it in. This is a book that I will return to for a second and a third time.

interesting insight into mid-century martial arts
Revisado: 10-27-20
I found it very interesting hearing his stories of practicing martial arts with Bruce Lee on his front drive. Who does that in the image-conscious twenty-first century? How times have changed between now and the 1950's.

You know her voice. Now hear her story.
Audible has teamed up with Rolling Stone to produce an uncompromisingly honest Audible Original that honors the life and legacy of the incomparable Aretha Franklin. Aretha’s universal appeal was evident from the release of her first album at age 14 through her nearly 50 Top 40 hits. Yet this intimate biography reminds us that Aretha knew pain as much as she knew glory. It was the blues, residing deep within her soul, that gave way to a voice able to lift millions with a profound sense of freedom, self-worth, and undeniable talent to rise above sorrow.

It was very interesting once you got into it
Revisado: 10-27-20
I tried listening to this book last year, but abandoned it. I thought to give it another go, and I am glad that I did. Aretha is a very interesting woman who stood her ground and created something that was uniquely hers. She's a very flawed woman, but that didn't stop her. I have a lot of respect for her (no pun intended) after listening to this biography.

thank you for writing this
Revisado: 08-05-20
I'd not heard of Mirna before reading this book. I did google her extensively once I'd started it - and was further impressed by her achievements, and her public persona. I loved the diversity of voices and accents Mirna used to characterize the people in her story. Except for the British accent... sheesh no-one has spoken like that (received pronunciation) since the 1940's, except The Queen. The rest were fabulous, and added depth to her story-telling.
Mirna is quite simply a lovely person - she's doing what she's doing, in her own way, and being fabulous at it. I also run. I am not 240lbs, nor am I black, but I am a woman. I too run at about 14 miles an hour. I started running during lockdown, and am only 4 runs away from having run 100 times. I'm only running 6 miles. I relate to her very slow starts, and her persistence. Unlike Mirna (who is incredible in this regard) I have no desire or aspiration to run marathons, half-marathons, or ultra-marathons.
I enjoyed this book very much. I got a lot from it. I thought about her, and her story, as I was out on my trail run today. I am proud of her as a person, and also for her writing skills. Plus she comes across as a lovely woman in her blog and interviews. May she continue to be exactly who she is.

Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

I liked the idea behind it
Revisado: 08-05-20
I liked the idea behind what Florence Williams is trying to do: tell people to take themselves away from urban stressors and experience the outdoors for 3 days. Because? Because you'll feel better for it. I wish that she'd not included the science part, and just included the anecdotes. The science was weak and didn't prove anything (the numbers were too small). The scientists told us that. The anecdotes were very interesting, and I liked that the author suggested a specific amount of time was needed for positive change to take effect i.e. 3 days.
I did like the book, and enjoy the book. And I liked that the author narrated it.
