Poor story line
Revisado: 03-28-25
The book kind of went nowhere and really wasn’t invested in the characters. I thought the book would go deeper into D.I.D. But, the court case ended very abruptly, and for such an absurd reason. Disappointed

When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. Disappointed
Revisado: 12-31-24
I really hate to write a negative review of a Nora Roberts book, but this one deserves it, especially after reading, and very much enjoying, the first book in this trilogy. This book was extremely redundant and did little - at best - to advance the story from the first book. I can’t think of a reason why this book was even written. If you want to read this book, I’d find an abridged copy to read. I won’t be reading the third book when it comes out.

It was as good a book the second time as the first. This book is one of my all time favorites. Amazing details and new concepts. Love it.

Disappointed
Revisado: 10-12-22
I really like Gregg Olsen, and I enjoyed the first 3 books in this series. But, it seems he didn’t have much material to work with on this one, and most of it was filler to make a decent length read. The story was monotonous and repetitive. The characters supporting characters were forgettable. The end of the story was painful to get through, and very predictable. I’m glad this was the final book in this series because I would not have read the next one.
My rating was as high as it was because I have really enjoyed his other books. If this was any other writer, I would have stopped listening and sent the book back.

I don’t get it
Revisado: 01-14-22
I kept waiting for the twist. It never came. The book just ended with no clear reason why the author would think it could end that way. The verdict made no sense.
I’m very disappointed and feel like I wasted my time with this book.

Will they or won’t they?
Revisado: 11-14-21
Too much time spent in the angst between the two main characters of whether or not they should sleep together. Had a very good plot, but the back and forth between them became monotonous, and detracted from the story.
The protagonist’s character and dialogue was very cliché. Seemed very little time was devoted to developing his character. I get that he’s a bad guy, but put some effort into making him look menacing or psychotic, and not just give him the dialogue of a third rate pimp in a low-budget NC-17 movie.

Read the abridged books instead
Revisado: 03-02-21
I really wanted enjoy this series, but it became too cumbersome. Good story, great writing, but the was way too much filler that did not need to be there. I found myself wanting to get to the end of the story so it would be over. My favorite series are ones that make me miss the book and the characters in the end. I was tired and underwhelmed at the end of this series. I probably would have enjoyed it better had I read the abridged versions.
Koonz is a great writer, but did too much writing here. The story would have been much more enjoyable if it had been edited down 20%
