Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

The Story Never Told - Spectacular!
Revisado: 04-18-24
I loved the voice of James as his authentic, self-educated empathic, wise, humane & Strong self assurance.
This story gives us a truer since of the mentality of the Black people in bondage. How they were skilled at being observant, learning quickly, making do with liyto nothing yet thriving and dreaming for better and more for themselves and family of bonded persons. There was plenty of excitement, very interesting dialogue, and a host of satirical characters. Some funny and sometimes sad; yet triumphant in many ways. I will read again as well as recommend this book to my bookclub and to many friends. Bravo!!!

Historia
Thelonious "Monk" Ellison's writing career has bottomed out: his latest manuscript has been rejected by seventeen publishers, which stings all the more because his previous novels have been "critically acclaimed." He seethes on the sidelines of the literary establishment as he watches the meteoric success of We's Lives in Da Ghetto, a first novel by a woman who once visited "some relatives in Harlem for a couple of days."

Intelligence of Irony
Revisado: 03-03-24
Erasure was a very well written novel of pain, intellectual irony, love, deception & laughter. Laughter as the author describes his literary journey, life, lack of loving relationships other than mom & dad. It demonstrates how so many are easily “bamboozled” and manipulated by nonsense. Very similar to the GOP manipulation of today’s gullible society. I digress…Loved the quirkiness of this story as it weaved a thread of truth through generational trauma, history, culture and uncelebrated intellect. I give honor to the author for writing such a brilliant novel to make us all think deeper about life, lifestyle, and loving realistic acceptance of others (everyone).

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

This is Much More Than a Story
Revisado: 11-06-23
Love this wonderful, captivating, heartwarming & humorous novel. Heaven & Earth takes you to places and leads you to people where you’d never journey to on your own or in your own or in your mind. However, McBrides tale visits these funny, sad, unexpected and beautiful places that in the end leave in a better place and thoughtful state of mind. James McBride is a Griot, not just another storyteller. Love him since reading his first epic novel “The Color of Water”. I highly recommend “The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store”. 5 Snaps!

Good Story Awful Narrator
Revisado: 10-02-23
The story was funny & gross as usual. However loved the old “Wakenfuss”, deep voiced narrator. This narrator sounds annoying like Harry McGlades character. The narrator made it hard to listen to the story- but I finished it as I always do, just to know the Konrath “loco” ending.

Karin Hit it Out of the Park!
Revisado: 09-25-23
Wow! What a great story. . Karin Slaughter masterfully leads you down a road full of unsuspecting twists, turns, and character details that pull together the major aspects of how Will and Sara’s troubled backgrounds lead them to the empathic yet strong characters that they are. Who would have guessed the ending from the beginning? Like John Grisham and James McBride, Karin Slaughter is a great weaver of the written word. Also, Kathleen Early was meant to narrate for Will & Sara’s saga. Bravo to both!

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Revisado: 01-07-23
It was nice revisiting this formidable tale of a quite formal family in a more light hearted but meaningful way. All who enjoyed the Pride and the Prejudice should delight in Mrs Wickham’s point of view and short revisit to “The Pride”…. Highly recommend this very Audible Original.

Bravo,
For making the legal proceedings from arrest to the verdict more palatable. Your stories put some hard truths into perspective that details the discrepancies in the Justice System for people of color or with behavioral health issues. The unfairness is blatantly clear. The for being a “truth teller” and a Justice Fighter, we need more Attorneys like you all over the US

Wow, Revival Season left me breathless at the end; wanting for more! It was stunning unexpected and not just a religious drama of do’s and don’ts. It made me think and question some standards of religion. Great story about family dynamics and the importance of mental health healing as well.
