Historia
Millions of Amor Towles fans are in for a treat as he shares some of his shorter fiction: six stories based in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood. The New York stories, most of which take place around the year 2000, consider the fateful consequences that can spring from brief encounters and the delicate mechanics of compromise that operate at the heart of modern marriages.

Engaging

I especially loved the first story for some reason and wished it would continue. But then I met Evelyn. Loved all those interconnected stories. He’s a master storyteller. The narrator was one I was familiar with from other titles (Beautiful Ruins) and I wasn’t sure about him on this one but ended up loving the job he did.

Historia
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semifinals, and they actually have a shot at winning.

Doesn't matter what the sport, the country or the town, this book should leave you reexamining episodes in your life. Amazing characters, some with special courage, and others with great shame. I haven't read a better book within the last few years.

Good old fashioned murder mystery
Revisado: 07-24-16
I enjoyed the characters, especially Cormoran. The quintessential dysfunctional private eye who capably solves everyone else's problems but can't get his own life in order. Fun to listen to and the reader was superb with various dialects, accents and tones

Warren Spooner was born after a prolonged delivery in a makeshift delivery room in a doctor's office in Milledgeville, Georgia, on the first Saturday of December, 1956. His father died shortly afterward, long before Spooner had even a memory of his face, and was replaced eventually by a once-brilliant young naval officer, Calmer Ottosson, recently court-martialed out of service.

Too Funny
Revisado: 03-11-10
How often do you listen to a book and laugh out loud. This book by Pete Dexter is quite a departed from his other books, which I found excellent, but dark. After listening to it for awhile I realized that it was taken from events in his life. What a ride, and as others have said, the narration is perfect.

This could be one of the most important books written in the last ten years. I would feel much better about our countries ability to tackle the problems we have if I had any faith in our representatives to do the right things and lead. Read it, you will be glad you did.
