Historia
The very first collection of superb short stories featuring Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings... First there was the mystery of the film star and the diamond... then came the 'suicide' that was murder... the mystery of the absurdly cheap flat... a suspicious death in a locked gun-room... a million dollar bond robbery... the curse of a pharaoh's tomb... a jewel robbery by the sea... the abduction of a Prime Minister... the disappearance of a banker... a phone call from a dying man... and, finally, the mystery of the missing will.

Always a Surprise Ending
Revisado: 11-03-24
Who doesn't love Hercule Poirot? Agatha Christy gives the reader almost enough information to solve each crime. Great listening on the road, even on short outings.

As Jem grows closer to uncovering what happened that night, his pursuer grows bolder, making increasingly terrifying attempts to silence him for good. Will exposing Toby's killer put to rest the shadows that have darkened Jem’s life for so long? Or will the gruesome truth only put him in more danger?

Pretty Drawn Out Whodunnit
Revisado: 08-25-24
Probably pretty realistic description of how an amateur would deduce who committed a crime. It went very slowly at times. I'm glad I stick with it. I liked the ending.

Real, Thought-Provoking
Revisado: 07-30-24
Real family struggles in a dysfunctional and tragedy-laden family, the story follows one of the characters full circle at, away, then back home to deal with things that can never really just be ignored. It was relatable because all of us experience tragedies and regrets in life. And like real life, it's not pretty and wrapped up with a bow on it at the end. I recommend this book for those looking for "real" drama, but look for it in terms of someone relating their damaged emotions and perspectives and how those shaped future decisions.

Winona Owen Ruined the Book
Revisado: 07-28-24
The narrator constantly mispronounced words!! She did at least once every two minutes, and I found myself counting the occurrences for particular words and missing the story. I almost quit listening to the book, but felt it disrespectful to Francine Rivers, whose works I have consistently enjoyed. Do not buy this Audible version if enunciation, good diction, and grammar are attributes you admire; this narration is nothing but a disappointment. Buy the book and read it yourself instead.

Story Doesn't End
Revisado: 04-25-20
Interesting premise, but moved too slowly. The story had too much narration of feelings, and not enough action. The reader was wonderful, however and changed voices for almost every character. Not as enjoyable as Wheeler's Fountain series. Because the story really didn't finish, I was left feeling a bit cheated. As usual, I loved that there were no sex scenes or obscene words.

A Bit Disjointed
Revisado: 01-01-20
Protagonist has unrelated jobs to do and does them. Multiple characters are unrelated and presented only once. No character development; but not much can be expected for a one+ hour story. Good for passing time on a road trip, though I can't call it any more than a "meh" diversion.
