Characters deal with the same future shock we are currently experiencing. Inflation, intellectual property rights, extreme poverty as even the extremely wealthy are pushed into the underclass. The daily scramble to make enough to live longer. Automation making most jobs obsolete. Not opening the rights to your own image and likeness as an AI. Colonization as campaigns as experienced by a child.. Ultra wealthy individuals and their AI staff.

Dramabombs galore

The characters in this book aren't very complicated, the good guys are universally talented good looking geniuses and the bad guys are ugly incompetent rapists or ugly manipulative lizard people.

Where this story really shines in its plot. The drama of getting the cathedral built and funded never gets old, with our heroes pitting their wits and skills against the villains cruel plots.

Better strategies for evaluating and picking the optimal choice in everyday life by understanding the underlying game or sorting theory. The historical and practical life application of optimal strategies explained by example. The author gets into it about the basics of algorithms and their application in computer science. The examples show the practical and historical usages of those same algorithms for more practical everyday decision making. Some of the rules of thumb and strategies were new to me. All of the practical applications of the algorithms were news to me.

I like the unvarnished view of the strive for success. The keys to success according to Steve seem to me to be to never give up trying and learning and never drinking on the job.
