My Favorite Story (Review by Wife, Jordyn)
Revisado: 10-15-22
It is not an exaggeration to say that I read A LOT from several different genres, and this has been my favorite book since it was gifted to me by a friend my junior year of college. When I learned it was now available as an audiobook, I jumped in it. I must admit, at first I was startled by the narration. Reading brings the book inside your imagination but somehow, you expect that if the characters were real, they would sound exactly how you imagined. Paula was the only one who sounded as I expected, but I soon realized that these narrations fit the characters well. I listened to this novel slowly because unlike other audiobooks, I didn't want to risk missing things of I multitasked. I rewound several times to listen to my favorite parts over and over again. Since my first experience with this book, I have planned to get a tattoo inspired by it's pages. It only makes sense because I think about these characters constantly, they should live on my skin as well. Should I get "Miercoles, the day that sounds like Miracles," or should I get a yellow lemon that says "Your friend"? I still can't decide. I advice you to not multitask as you listen to this book. Just sit there and be a witness to the story. I could talk about this book forever, but I don't want to ruin anything for first-time readers/listeners. I will just say I've never read a book as poetic as this one. It's quiet yet loud, real but magical.

Twelve Extraordinary Women offers a poignant and personal look into the lives of some of the Bible's most faithful women. Their struggles and temptations are the same trials faced by all believers at all ages. Inside this book, best-selling author and Bible teacher John MacArthur shows that the God to whom they were so committed is the same God who continues to mold and use ordinary people today.

Great History, Mixed Message
Revisado: 10-28-21
If I was just rating how this book opened my eyes to the lessons and history behind the Bible, I would give this a 5/5 stars! However, through some comments that the author said, I can tell that he and I don't agree on what a Christian women's place is in the world. I am a Liberal person and I knew I wouldn't agree with all of his interpretations. That being said, I would recommend this listen to anyone who wants to understand the Bible better, even if I didn't agree with his personal thoughts.
I'm also very curious why Esther isn't on this list? I would like to have known what his process was for selecting 12 women from the Bible. Since only 2 of the Books are titled after women (Ruth and Esther), I would've assumed Esther would make the cut, especially considering her story!

It's been used for 5 decades to destroy anyone they label an enemy -- former scientologists, media, government officials -- anyone they think is impeding their objectives. Leah and Mike are covering new ground, digging deeper than ever into the shocking documents, facts and stories that will make you wonder how any of this is going on in America today.

Nonfiction by a Fiction Writer
Revisado: 02-03-18
Ann Patchett is one of my favorite authors. Listening to this in her voice made the story so much better, but it was already well-written because Patchett has been writing for years. It almost came off as fiction until the last chapter, which was too real and almost made me cry.

This was a great look into the life of an actor living day-to-day with his character. Thankfully it was actually narrated by Leonard Nimoy and I can't imagine it being narrated by anyone else. Listening to this book isn't just a must for any Star Trek fan, but also a must for anyone who loves acting, television, and theatre.

Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

I love research books that also discuss the author's personal life. Brene Brown had some interesting stories to add, and I really enjoyed them. I also don't read (or hear) many books that I agree with so much.
