This was bad. I feel ripped off by listening to this free "book." Don't waste your time.

Steven and his bros. are fine advocates for science and reason. I highly recommend this book.

Steven Novella is an excellent explainer of the ways that one's own thinking process can warp perception of reality. Particularly good are the sections of metacognition or "thinking about thinking." I highly recommend this audiobook.

This is pretty bad. Every one one of these is a constant drone of wisecracks interlaced with gory descriptions, sexism and adolescent sex fantasies. I wish I hadn't downloaded it.

This book runs right down the line, ticks all the boxes. I's like someone followed an outline on how to write a thriller. I would steer clear of this one.

I can't recommend this enough. It's a fantastic blend of narrative, history and science. It's very well written and packed with information. It also carries a massive emotional punch.

What did you love best about A Confederacy of Dunces?

I would say the background of New Orleans and its residents.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

As I mentioned above, this is not a conventional novel. The story is a series of misadventures involving the main character. There is not a conventional narrative in the sense of most novels.

What does Barrett Whitener bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The bluster and arrogance of Ignatius J Reilly is well expressed by the narrator.

If you could rename A Confederacy of Dunces, what would you call it?

I would not rename it.

Any additional comments?

This is a quirky story. The characters are all deeply flawed, and blind to their own ineptitude. It can be frustrating, but it is also very funny. It's hard to like any of the characters, though, because they are so honestly depicted. I must admit, I was hoping to like it more.

What made the experience of listening to Cochise: Chiricahua Apache Chief the most enjoyable?

Simply the learning about Cochise, and the Apache civilization and culture.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cochise: Chiricahua Apache Chief?

The description of the Bascomb Affair (Apache Pass) which is really the beginning of the Apache wars.

Did S. George Lee do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

This is a history book, so that really dies not apply.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, the density of the information requires time to digest.

Any additional comments?

My main problem with this Audible program is the narration. The narrator's voice was fine, however, many of the words are mispronounced. "Mogollon" and "Cienega," for instance, and also many of the Apache and Spanish names were mispronounced throughout the narration. I think the narrator should have taken a little time and looked into how these words are commonly spoken.

Zinn's history definitley has a point of view.

What made the experience of listening to A People's History of the United States the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed hearing history expressed from another point of view. Of course, one must keep Zinn's bias in mind while listening. I think the truth (if we can ever find truth in history) lies somewhere between the history taught in grade school, and Zinn's left leaning version.

Would you be willing to try another book from Howard Zinn? Why or why not?

Yes

What aspect of Jeff Zinn’s performance would you have changed?

He did a fine job of reading, perhaps the post production could be cleaned up a bit.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me think, and want to read more about history.

Any additional comments?

At the end of the day, these stories need to be told. The genocide of the native peoples of the Americas must never be forgotten.
