Historia
One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

Classic Greatness
Revisado: 05-05-25
Thought provoking to say the least. The narrator did a wonderful job. Imagine what the world would be like if more people contemplated the principles that Ayn Rand so expertly portrays.

Historia
In November 1942, Paul Andrew Kennedy (1912-1993) boarded the St. Elena in New York Harbor and sailed for Casablanca as part of Operation Torch, the massive Allied invasion of North Africa. As a member of the US Army's 2nd Auxiliary Surgical Group, he spent the next 34 months working in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany, in close proximity to the front lines and often under air or artillery bombardment. He was uncomfortable, struck by the sorrows of war, and homesick for his wife.

Interesting Firsthand Account
Revisado: 12-31-24
Great chance to see WWII from a support person perspective. He provides a broad account of the war in Europe. His pining for his wife gets a bit old, but it's understandable.
I did not like the narrators performance. His inflections make the story sound childish. Almost like he's reading a story to an elementary school class, which is probably the exact opposite intended audience.

Historia
The father of three sons, a journalist, and a Brookings Institution scholar, Richard V. Reeves has spent twenty-five years worrying about boys both at home and work. His new book, Of Boys and Men, tackles the complex and urgent crisis of boyhood and manhood. Reeves looks at the structural challenges that face boys and men and offers fresh and innovative solutions that turn the page on the corrosive narrative that plagues this issue. Of Boys and Men argues that helping the other half of society does not mean giving up on the ideal of gender equality.

Missed Opportunity
Revisado: 08-01-24
I really enjoyed the beginning of the book. He presents a very thoughtful evaluation of the data regarding the gender gaps. He took a balanced approach by looking at the data and not taking a political side. However, most of his solutions were social engineering through government spending.

Historia
Inside our military is a team of operators whose work is so secretive that the name of the unit itself is classified. Highly-trained in warfare, self-defense, infiltration, and deep surveillance, "the Unit," as the Department of Defense has asked us to refer to it, has been responsible for preventing dozens of terrorist attacks in the Western world. Never before has a member of this unit shared their story — until now.

Title is Misleading
Revisado: 04-27-24
This is more of an autobiography than a story about "a unit." Be prepared to have someone lecture you about America based on anecdotal experience. I turned it off when he started spitting political talking points that don't align with reality. It's too bad because it could have been a great book.

Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.
