Historia
Crime reporter Joe Carpenter lost his wife and two daughters in the crash of Flight 353. Joe is unable to work, think, or do anything but grieve, and wait for his own death. Then Joe meets Rose, a woman who claims to be the crash’s sole survivor. But before Joe can probe further, the elusive Rose slips away and Joe is left with haunting questions: If Rose lived through the crash, is it possible his family could have survived it, too? Did the authorities conspire to hide what really happened that night? Joe’s search for the truth will shatter him - and force him to question everything he thinks he knows about life and death.

too much description
Revisado: 03-06-25
when I listen to a title I like for the author to get to the point. there was so much simile and description that it felt like Overkill. there's a certain amount of description you have to provide but if it doesn't really contribute to the story it's just annoying. but that's not the worst thing. I felt like the end didn't really end. what happens to the boy who is torturing everyone remotely? this guy just sails off into the sunset? after he made the main character someone who dug deeper why would he just allow this to continue? I would imagine that Joe would keep digging until he stopped what was happening to other people by this evil organization. it didn't make any sense that he would just stop and sit on a beach and reflect about his life. felt very fragmented. so much more could have been done with this story. maybe they're needed to be a second book describing what happened to these children that are used for their gifts. too many unanswered questions. good story but very disappointing ending.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Historia
Some days Nora Nolan thinks that she and her husband, Charlie, lead a charmed life - except when there’s a crisis at work, a leak in the roof at home, or a problem with their twins at college. And why not? New York City was once Nora’s dream destination, and her clannish dead-end block has become a safe harbor, a tranquil village amid the urban craziness. Then one morning she returns from her run to discover that a terrible incident has shaken the neighborhood, and the fault lines begin to open: on the block, at her job, especially in her marriage.

Historia
This magnificent novel by one of America's finest writers is the epic of one man's remarkable journey, set in 19th-century America against the background of a vanishing people and a rich way of life. At the age of 12, under the Wind moon, Will is given a horse, a key, and a map, and sent alone into the Indian Nation to run a trading post as a bound boy. It is during this time that he grows into a man, learning, as he does, of the raw power it takes to create a life, to find a home.

I truly enjoyed it
Revisado: 08-01-22
First of all I want to say that the reading of this book was perfect. The narrator did an incredible job. It makes a story so much more enjoyable when you feel like the person reading it is actually the person being written about. I feel like Will led a life that was sad and happy like most of us and full of lessons learned some the hard way. All of us can relate to that. I love to learn about the history of our country and this is a book that will teach you. It's one man's perspective of that time in our nation and I think everyone needs to read and understand what happened to the Indians and during the civil war. I highly recommend it.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-28-22
I thought this would be better than the movie but it's not. The reader is excellent but the content is very high school in nature. She drones on about her empty days and drags you through them with her and you feel the emptiness. How could you not? The scene where she hides in the bathroom during Karaoke and has a melt down made me wonder if she needed therapy it was so over the top ridiculous. It was dull and uninteresting and moved very slow. I guess I expected it to be more insightful and have more substance but it ran on like, this is what I did today and it was nothing great. That's how it reads. Nothing great.

One of the most acclaimed novels in recent memory, Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain is a masterpiece that is at once an enthralling adventure, a stirring love story, and a luminous evocation of a vanished American in all its savagery, solitude, and splendor.

Great Suspense but disturbing
Revisado: 07-22-22
It kept me involved the whole time. You don't know until the very last chapter what happened and not even then. I could have done without the foul language. I don't think it added to the story at all in fact it kind of took away from it for me. There were parts of it that were disturbing.

Their whirlwind romance started when they were young college students and lasted nearly 30 years - until Elizabeth died of cancer. So when John Baxter is asked to relive his long-ago love story with Elizabeth for his grandson Cole's heritage project, he's not sure he can do it. The sadness might simply be too great.

Disappointed
Revisado: 07-11-22
I really thought this was going to be better than it is. The story lines are very predictable. The guy who reads it sounds like a robot there's no emotion in his voice. All the characters are so intense about their relationships and that's not real. Men don't sit around and pine away for women. Maybe that's what a woman thinks they do and this is why it's obvious this was written by a woman. It does have some good moments but overall it's not my favorite read. I bought it years ago and I just can't stay interested in it enough to finish it.

A conversation with a friend
Revisado: 06-30-22
He writes like he's having a personal conversation with his friend. That's how you feel when you're listening to the story. It's his history and his information he's learned the hard way and it's a valuable thing to know. it's never easy to expose yourself emotionally but he does it so easily as if you're a trusted friend who won't judge him too harshly. We all assume actors are lucky and successful so they must be charmed and perfect inside and out. They're not. They're human just like everyone else with problems and struggles same as anyone else. Without sounding condescending I'm proud of him for writing this and being brave. I'm proud of him for loving the people who hurt him and for realizing that he can love himself.

I really enjoyed this book. I like listening to her thoughts and related to just about all of it. I'm the same age. Every now and then you find a book and it feels like a treasure. That's what this one is. There were moments where I just laughed out loud. Lots of wisdom! It's a very fun read.
