Kai Cheng Thom grew up a Chinese Canadian transgender girl in a hostile world. Absolutely amazing
Revisado: 03-23-24
This is absolutely amazing. This takes a lot at the worst parts of humanity and gives us a little bit of hope. Kai writes with so much passion and grace. Kai narrates the book perfectly. I highly recommend.

So unique
Revisado: 03-17-24
This book has a lot of lore and information however it didn’t feel like it was all dump on us which made it a lot more engaging. I think the magic card system is unique and it was the perfect atmosphere. I can see book two having a lot more action and I’m excited to see what’s going to happen next!

My favorite comfort book
Revisado: 02-21-24
HELLOOO? Is this my favorite romance of all times? Is Chloe one of my favorite character of all times? Yes. Chloe is a Black plus size mc who lives cat, has a little bit of an attitude and constant witty retorts? Yes that’s me. Thank you for giving me a character that makes me feel seen and I can completely relate to. I loved everything about this book. He relationship with her family and sisters is so precious and exactly how siblings should be! Her grandmother is HILARIOUS and had me literally laughing out loud. Our main love interest Red? Perfection. He is funny and sweet and yes one of my forever book boyfriends. Their relationship progress? Perfection. The spicy scenes? Perfection. I love how they both make each other the best versions of themselves. I also how much representation this book has. Talia handles Chloe’s chronic illness with so much grace and based of reality and I love how it did not define her.
Two words for this book FUN and SWEET. If you neeed a pick me up or are in a book hangover this is the perfect book.
**I now read this book atleast once or twice a year. And yes it always makes my heart happy.
“Gasp, et cetera. I can’t believe you thought I was a snob.” “Neither can I. You’re just a cute little hermit who hisses at sunlight.”

Historia
Clint Smith's debut poetry collection, Counting Descent, is a coming of age story that seeks to complicate our conception of lineage and tradition. Smith explores the cognitive dissonance that results from belonging to a community that unapologetically celebrates black humanity while living in a world that often renders blackness a caricature of fear. His poems move fluidly across personal and political histories, all the while reflecting on the social construction of our lived experiences.
