Historia
Ukraine, 1941. War has ripped Katya’s country and heart in two. When two soldiers knock down her door and force her into a truck, she knows deep down that this might be the last time she ever sees home. As she is driven away to a labor camp, she looks out the tiny window at the barren winter landscape and thinks only of her son, Alexander, who she was forced to leave behind and may never see again.

Sorry, the narration is awful
Revisado: 11-12-23
I appreciate that the narrator is Russian, but the narration is so bad, I feel like she’s just reading a book. And even stumbling over words. I still had several hours left in the story when I had to return it. I have no idea whether the story is good or not. I had a very hard time following it.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

I loved it!
Revisado: 09-19-23
Thank you for writing this book and exposing the truth of your family and it’s involvement in Bill Gothard’s cult. I am immensely impressed by you and your husband Derick. You addressed difficult issues with grace and kindness. You are truly classy, and Derick is a rockstar, in my opinion. Would love to read another book by you in the future. God bless you.

Historia
A man wakes up in a hospital bed, with no idea who he is or how he came to be there. The only information the doctor shares with his patient is his name: Innokenty Petrovich Platonov. As memories slowly resurface, Innokenty begins to build a vivid picture of his former life as a young man in Russia in the early 20th century, living through the turbulence of the Russian Revolution and its aftermath. But soon, only one question remains: How can he remember the start of the 20th century, when the pills by his bedside were made in 1999?

The ending is bewildering
Revisado: 07-18-23
To say the least, the ending is anti-climactic. I was truly stunned and hope for a sequel. Otherwise, the book is very interesting and thought-provoking. Would make a great movie. Maybe with a different ending.

I love the story, but …
Revisado: 04-24-23
I truly wish we could pick the narrator. This woman had very little differences in inflection for different characters. Everyone pretty much sounded the same. She speaks as though she is about 100 years old, with a mouth full of spit and very loose dentures. I found myself cringing way too many times. I’m not sure I will listen to the rest of the series if she is the narrator.

Predictable. And long.
Revisado: 03-29-22
I found the narration annoying. She’s breathy and a bit whiny sounding. Her accents were not exactly on point. And the descriptive sex was a bit much for me. I don’t enjoy smut books. I kept listening, all the while remembering my mother’s words, “Life is too short to read bad books”. I did listen all the way through. I won’t be listening to the other books in the series, unless of course they are free through the library.

Historia
When Fiona Edwards first sees the lanky backpacker striding up the lane toward her award-winning farmhouse bed-and-breakfast in the remote mountains of North Wales, she's puzzled. She's used to unexpected strangers, but few arrive on foot. The man to whom she opens her door is middle-aged, unshaven, sweat-soaked…and arrestingly handsome. What neither of them knows at that moment is that their lives are about to change forever.

Well, I did finish it
Revisado: 03-10-22
The story reads like a hallmark movie - with raunchy adultery added. I rather reluctantly kept listening, even through the horrible narration and my own eye rolling.
The narrator had a very weird way of pronouncing the daughter’s name. Since it’s my own daughter’s name, I found it extremely annoying. Perhaps it’s the Irish Celtic way of pronouncing it. I don’t know. But it grated on me. You won’t like it either. Guarantee it.
Falling in love, deep love, after knowing someone for 3 days, is ridiculous enough, but the fact this guy (Alec) keeps sleeping with Fiona after her husband’s near death - well that’s just insane.
And what’s even more insane? At the end of the book, Alec comes back after 6 years apart, and immediately proposes to Fiona - with his dead wife’s wedding ring! I realize that a man wrote this book, because no woman on earth would write that into a story. I’d prefer a new ring, thank you very much. Not his dead first wife’s!
I keep thinking about the hours of my life that I’ve lost listening to this book. Do yourself a favor and don’t waste your hours too. You’re welcome.

Didn’t like the ending
Revisado: 12-09-21
The story was interesting. It kept me engaged. Narration good. But that ending really didn’t make sense that me. It didn’t go the direction I thought it would and it left a giant void for the main character. You never found out what happened to him.
