Great story!
Revisado: 03-14-21
I really enjoyed this book! I've liked everything that I've read by Virginia Smith in the past, but I tended to stay away from her fantasy books because that's not a genre I typically like. However, this book has caused me to expand my horizons and I'm going to check out some more fantasy. The story is very complex, and fascinating. The characters are well developed and the storyline is hard to put down. I sure hope she creates a sequel to this book.

frolicking fun
Revisado: 10-31-19
This book is fun from the beginning to the end. It was hard to put down. Jen Turano does a fabulous job of portraying late 19th century New York society and the work world of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The book is full of mishap, misunderstanding, misadventures, and a bit of intrigue. The portrayals of children and animals make this book a delight.I found the performance a little stilted, but the book itself far exceeds the concerns I had with that.

Fantastic step back into history
Revisado: 09-10-19
I really loved this book. I had read it before and I was fascinated to listen. It's a fabulous story of the beginnings of nursing in our country during the Civil War. The story itself brings history to life, the characters are amazing and the settings are very realistic. The narration is fabulous. The narrator does a great job with voices so that you can keep all the different characters straight. She even sings the songs that are in the book really bringing it to life. I highly recommend this book!

Powerful Story, Wonderful Narration
Revisado: 02-28-19
I read this book when it was first released and it became one of my all time favorites. I've always heard about wars during history class, but it never occurred to me the impact these had on the people who lived in the area. Jocelyn Green totally opened my eyes to a whole new perspective and truly brought history to life for me. Her use of actual letters and diaries reinforced the story she created, and her research must have taken forever. I was excited to see this become and Audible title and I couldn't wait to listen.
Laura Richcreek did an amazing job. Her pacing, array of voices, and even singing truly made this a masterpiece. I could hear the horror in her voice as she discussed severed limbs from wounded soldiers being discarded, and it was easy to imagine I was right in the midst of the sights and smells of post-battle Gettysburg.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes historical novels!

Historia
An exciting new Amish-meets-Wild West adventure from bestselling authors Lori Copeland and Virginia Smith weaves an entertaining and romantic tale for devoted fans and new readers. Kansas,1881--On a trip to visit relatives, Emma Switzer's Amish family is robbed of all their possessions, leaving them destitute and stranded on the prairie. Walking into the nearest trading settlement, they pray to the Lord for someone to help. When a man lands in the dust at her feet, Emma looks down at him and thinks, The Lord might have cleaned him up first. Luke Carson, heading up his first cattle drive, is not planning on being the answer to anyone's prayers, but it looks as though God has something else in mind for this kind and gentle man. Plain and rugged--do the two mix? And what happens when a dedicated Amish woman and a stubborn trail boss prove to be each other's match?

I read this book in paperback form several years ago, and I was excited to see that it was an audiobook now. The narrator does a fabulous job of characterizing the different players and keeping the story going at a quick pace.
