Back to Osten Ard! Buckle up!
Revisado: 12-03-23
We arrive back in time to watch budding treachery, a boozey naive teenage prince, murder and stubborn human darkness. The Sithie and the Norn are at it again. Nabban has two brawling brothers while the kindling has been set to burn the entire kingdom down. An old religion is revived by a greedy lover, and oh yeah, did I mention the Dark Queen is awake?!
The characters have seasoned well, though you would think Seomen would have had a better grip on blind trust and the experience by now to recognize the mechanics of the rumblings of a new war. I loved the tangle of various people’s interactions, but it seems to me that many of these people are almost criminally gullible. Don’t get me wrong, reading nonstop bitter is boring, but the characters were not frozen, they should know better by now. So instead of 5 it’s a four, Well worth your time.

Great story.
Revisado: 09-08-23
I loved Holly from the start of the Mr. Mercedes series. I can’t wait to read more from this series. It’s amazing to me that so many people feel free to attack the writer for the political views of his characters, though Mr. King was echoing his own beliefs. And I would hope, that at this point in his writing career he doesn’t give a damn what we think. Here is his book. Take it or leave it. I for one, will take it.

Long build up, at hour 14 and I am still waiting.
Revisado: 04-25-23
The narrator is excellent. The characters are still building at hour 14. It’s getting boring…how many more peeks into crippling phobias do we need? This book could be much shorter and I am just over halfway through.

Historia
Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada, has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. And it is a place where several travelers are abducted by Collie Entragian, the maniacal police officer of Desperation. Entragian uses various ploys for the abductions, from an arrest for drug possession to "rescuing" a family from a nonexistent gunman.

I found myself complaining about authors these days not having a good grasp on true, bone chilling back of your neck hair raising Horror. I found this book! A Stephen King book I hadn’t read! Stephen King should read all of his books, his voice just fits. Perfectly. Long may you write Mr. King.

Historia
The world has changed. Now, when someone is murdered, they almost always come back to life—and there are professionals, called “dispatchers”, who kill in order to save lives, to give those near the end a second chance. Tony Valdez is a dispatcher, and he has never been busier. But for as much as the world has changed, some things have stayed the same. Greed, corruption, and avarice are still in full swing.

Dispatcher part 3
Revisado: 12-17-22
Zachary Quinto as always is a wonderful narrator. John Scalzi is an excellent author! He has a playful side, Kaiju Preservation Society, Red Shirts, Fuzzy Nation. I am usually happily surprised by his latest book, his range is massive. Old Man’s War part of the Collapsing Empire is a wonderful speculative fiction series. So many other amazing books by Mr. Scalzi I hope we see television adaptations of the Old Mans War. Back to the dispatcher. As usual another visit into a world where death is optional for most people. What would you do if you could have someone hit your reset button, or ask them not to…in a world where coming back isn’t always your best choice? Great short, great narrator, great author.

Hold onto Waxillium’s mistcloak, and away we go!
Revisado: 11-22-22
Possibly the best of the second age after the Mistborn series. Western shoot-outs are mixed with sorcerous duels, the politics of navigating the ethics of an industrial revolution and fantasy, mystery and love, human love. This time a slightly befuddled Harmony, Wax, Wayne, Steris and Marasi are up against the destruction of Scadrial itself. The narration is excellent as usual. It isn’t usual to find a series where each of the next books are better than the preceding. Mistborn will always be my favourite series by this author, so if you haven’t read it yet, get on it!

Historia
Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

Scott Sigler. What can I say, he’s done it again.
The characters, the raw visceral carnage, the tension and of course the twists and turns of a Sigler novel. A fun read. Try his infected series.

I know he needed to put Jack to bed, but…
Revisado: 07-27-21
Unlike some of the other reviews I found Hillary Huber’s performance O.K., if a bit breathy.
She has a lovely voice, and a range of character voices.
I wasn’t expecting an incredible start to a series, I started this book knowing it was new world with new rules. Repairman Jack is one of the best series of dark fantasy fiction I have ever read, so I am willing to go ahead and buy the next in this series expecting a better pace, plot and character development. It didn’t grab me by the back of my shirt and whisk me off on a thrilling ride, holding my attention for the entire book. It isn’t Repairman Jack, but I know he has another great series in him, so here’s hoping. If this is your first F Paul Wilson book, please treat yourself to the entire Repairman Jack series. Hopefully he will tie Jack’s world into this new world of his.

After giving a terrible review to Peace Talks because it was half a book, I have to do an about face and grudgingly give the four stars to Battleground. Still, I would have paid for both books at once. These two books (together) are Butchers best.

The Trouble with Peace is that we have to wait for the next book.
Revisado: 09-28-20
The performance and the writing are of course, excellent. I missed that old bastard Bayaz in this book, and would have enjoyed a chapter of his reaction to the slow bleed of his power. As is usual we have old characters like Caul Shivers and Orso, and are introduced to some new and interesting characters. A beloved character Rikke I felt could have had more pages devoted to her, but I’m sure she and the higher ups like Savine,Pike and arch lecter Glokta and the head of the breakers will be under the next rock Mr. Abercrombie turns over. In the next novel, which I am already impatiently waiting for, I think/hope we may finally see the beginning of the end of Bayaz’s monster, the bank. I enjoyed the battle scenes and the quiet reflections of certain characters in times of crises
Always a good read. The humour and the ferocity in this book often go hand in hand. I enjoyed the balance. Hurry up and publish the next one Joe Abercrombie.
