Historia
Ever noticed that trying to calm down often produces more agitation? Or that real fulfillment can be elusive, despite living a successful life? Often, such difficulties stem from the human brain's hardwired tendency to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Modern science demonstrates that this survival mechanism served the needs of our earliest ancestors, but is at the root of many problems that we face today, such as depression, compulsive and addictive behaviors, chronic pain, and stress and anxiety.

Same old info with one great exercice
Revisado: 01-03-17
If you could sum up The Science of Mindfulness in three words, what would they be?
Humorous examples in the sample.
What other book might you compare The Science of Mindfulness to and why?
This was basically like any other book I've read/listened to about Mindfulness.
What about Professor Ronald Siegel’s performance did you like?
I enjoyed his advice not to be mindful "like a sniper".Also, I DID enjoy, and often replay, one guided exercice on "Loving-Kindness".
Any additional comments?
Since this series is called "The Great Courses", I'd hoped to learn more new hints about practising mindfulness in everyday life. (e.g.: Another book, "10 % Happier" gives an audio sample where the author points out how we often overeat mindlessly, because we're looking for another burst of flavour rather than the fading taste.)

Starts with a fresh retelling of the Xmas story
Revisado: 12-09-16
If you could sum up To Make a Long Story Short in three words, what would they be?
- to retell Jesus' biography in a fresh way - that will both entertain and make you think.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Justyn sometimes adds some details of his own - how he imagines things would have been in real life.
What about Justyn Rees’s performance did you like?
I loved his different accents for different characters
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My first reason for joining Audible was that it was the only audible source to carry this book. (I often get CD's from the library.)
Any additional comments?
Yes. This is perfect for the Season - even for jaded listeners who need a touch of hope and "Christmas spirit."

Historia
We never know what will happen next in Florida. We know only that, any minute now, something will. Every few months, Dave Barry gets a call from some media person wanting to know, "What the hell is wrong with Florida?" Somehow, the state's acquired an image as a subtropical festival of stupid, and as a loyal Floridian, Dave begs to differ. Sure, there was the 2000 election. And people seem to take their pants off for no good reason. And it has flying insects the size of LeBron James. But it is a great state, and Dave is going to tell you why.

A timely book about a Swing State - Election 2000?
Revisado: 11-03-16
What made the experience of listening to Best. State. Ever. the most enjoyable?
I loved how he started off, "What makes people think, ' What's up with Florida?' I think it all started with the Election of 2000. All the other states seemed to know who they'd voted for. But Florida,....." ,..ever since then other states love to publish strange news stories about us." But I love my state."
What other book might you compare Best. State. Ever. to and why?
I laugh at all of Dave Barry's books.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
I would have preferred if Dave Barry had read his own book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I visited Florida in the 90's /rented a car to explore, like Barry suggested.. Parts were very nostalgic. (The Keys are beautiful - like the Caribbean, Hemmingway's house with moss-covered trees like the Deep South, etc.)
Any additional comments?
I started to fall asleep last night listening to the "Lock and Load" machine gun firing range, for the public. I couldn't believe they'd let my friend's 11 year old try one when they visited there. So I want to listen more to see if it's true.

Priceless - Affordable Intermediate Pimsleur!
Revisado: 03-02-16
What did you love best about Spanish Level 2 Lessons 26-30?
Only Pimsleur Beginner's lessons are available at our library. And their complete set costs a fortune. What a treat to find intermediate to advanced selections at a reasonable price!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Spanish Level 2 Lessons 26-30?
Pimsleur is famous for having one of the best teaching methods - anticipation and review at unexpected moments.
What does Pimsleur bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Love the sounds of Spanish. Love to play with them.Confusing grammar like "le" vs. "lo" and "la" will become internalised effortlessly, after listening to this particular level a few times. Great for traffic jams - instead of being stressed you can pretend you're in another country, having dinner with a local family, etc.
Any additional comments?
The only other beginning Spanish audiobook I might recommend is Elisabeth Smith's"In a Day Spanish". (Don't like her Rush Hour Spanish). It contains lots of humour as she pretends she's teaching a young British guy next to her on the plane some last minute Spanish. Has lots of good memory aids too.

Twenty years ago, Bill Bryson went on a trip around Britain to discover and celebrate that green and pleasant land. The result was Notes from a Small Island, a true classic and one of the bestselling travel books ever written. Now he has traveled about Britain again, by bus and train and rental car and on foot, to see what has changed—and what hasn’t.

Certainly Not as Bad as Some Reviews Suggest
Revisado: 02-18-16
Would you consider the audio edition of The Road to Little Dribbling to be better than the print version?
Yes.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that he describes going into Scotland (and Wales). He compares the changes from his first trip to England 20 years ago.Of course some things will be different. He also points out improvements/pleasant surprises.I liked the easy-to-understand historical tidbits and funny personal anecdotes.
Did Nathan Osgood do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
It took awhile to realize when he made sarcastic remarks, that this was only in his head - not out loud. Sometimes I found them pretty funny.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I still love getting lost in his narratives/feeling like I'm traveling along with him.
Any additional comments?
Don't let the Audio Sample decide if you'd like to download this book.A quick look at a Fast Read in the library (or on Amazon) might help.

Historia
Cuba occupies a place of undisputed fascination in the American psyche. Despite its proximity to America, this island nation remains a mystery to most Americans. Few Americans have traveled to Havana, and still fewer have traveled deeper into this isolated country. Chris Messner, a photographer, is one of the few Americans who have been able to travel extensively throughout this island.

Misadventures of Visiting Cuba Now
Revisado: 08-08-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Cuba Open from the Inside to be better than the print version?
.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It tied up loose ends.
What does Kevin Haberer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Kevin narrated this story so that it was suspenseful/enjoyable listening.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Having been on various trips to third-world countries, I could sympathize with the author's Customs' hassles and traveling by rented vehicle. I was touched by the friendship between his local amigo, Jésus, and him.
Any additional comments?
The author (photographer) also mused how legal American tourism could either help low-income Cuba or ruin its timeless scenery/culture.

"A Yellow Pages" - Put me to sleep forwrongreasons
Revisado: 06-10-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Probably only if they were actually planning to go there NOW and needed email addresses.
What could Blair Howard have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I enjoyed his descriptive introduction to the Cotwsolds.
However, it quickly turned him listing the phone numbers, zip codes, email addressses, etc. of every inn, pub and B & B in every little town!
I usually listen to audiobooks to help me sleep. This one did because it became so boring!I
The author has incredible writing talent and a soothing narrating voice.
I would have much preferred he tell us more about the historical trivia, description of the beautiful gardens, stones, food, people, etc.
Then, one could have imagined more one was visiting there.
Do you think Visitor's Guide to the English Cotswolds: 3rd Edition 2015 needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Only if he makes it more into "a bedtime story".....
He grew up here. He must have many stories of his (and others') lives here. I can't stay awake long enough to hear
(besides "The White Knights". )
Any additional comments?
I needed something to help me sleep. This did the trick. Good thing it was inexpensive.
