"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

I seriously urge you to be patient with the beginning!
Revisado: 03-25-25
OK! I very nearly stopped listening to this story. The beginning is very slow and ditzy. I was not at all compelled by the start, but after the first important plot point of the story happened it immediately became compelling. Unlike most litRPG I've read, this one actually takes a compelling look at the psychologic/emotional toll the juxtaposition of life from one world to another takes. Hang in there and you'll find a very compelling narrative! If I were to give the author any advice it would definitely be to rework the opening, which is the weakest link when it has the most important function of grabbing the new reader's attention!

I'm not a writer, but I really enjoyed seeing the initial brainstorming session, rough drafts and feedback in addition to the final stories. Definitely a must listen for aspiring writers and a fun look inside the process for everyone else. I enjoyed all the stories as well.

Yesterday, President Biden announced that, for the good of the nation, he would not remain in the race for the Presidency, and instead he offered his full support and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee for President. The Vice President shared her gratitude and expressed that it is her intention to earn and win the Democratic nomination. As we look ahead with new energy and excitement toward the grave magnitude and historic hope of the next 107 days, we are looking back to a conversation we had with Kamala Harris last year on what would have been the ...

Historia
Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service. When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away. Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

I've enjoyed all his previous books immensely, but while I appreciated the themes of the book and some of it was absolutely brilliant (see the central library's information sorting method), the pacing was outright painful. Maybe listen to the preview and see how the pacing goes for you before buying it.

Historia
The original teleplay that became the classic Star Trek episode, with an expanded introductory essay by Harlan Ellison, The City on the Edge of Forever has been surrounded by controversy since the airing of an "eviscerated" version - which subsequently has been voted the most beloved episode in the series' history. In its original form, The City on the Edge of Forever won the 1966-67 Writers Guild of America Award for Best Teleplay. As aired, it won the 1967 Hugo Award.

You aren't buying this for what you think you are buying it for...
Revisado: 12-16-23
No, while Harlan Ellison's original screenplay is poignant, poetic, and beautiful, what you are actually buying this for is listen, spellbound, as Harlan spends literally hours eviscerating all those who have wronged him in the past. Of course this is primarily Gene RoddenbJerry, but also those that supported him. These parts are actually recorded by Ellison and you can feel the relish in his voice as he sets the record straight, and he has receipts. It's classic Ellison. I imagine he must have been a very hard man to be friends with, but he is certainly an incredibly gifted, if cantankerous, writer.

Reidon Ward's first semester at the Galens Institute hasn't been without reward. In just over half a year he's gone from the weakest cadet at school to one of the strongest in his class, and there's no one left who would argue that his Device, Shido, isn't the most terrifying CAD they've ever laid eyes on. Still, Rei knows that his climb has barely begun, like he knows that the true fight is only just starting. After all… The Sectionals tournament has arrived. Rei, along with Aria, Viv, Catcher, and a couple unexpected squadmates, are about to face the first real battle of their careers.

Historia
It is one of the most well-known and well-loved fantasy epics of the twentieth century: the story of Elric, emperor of the dying kingdom of Melniboné. For a hundred centuries the Melnibonéans have ruled from the Dragon Isle of Imrryr. Now, after years of corruption and decadence, Elric’s amoral cousin Prince Yyrkoon, the brother of his beloved Cymoril, sets his eyes on the Ruby Throne. Elric must face his treacherous cousin not as a warrior but as a sorcerer king once again in league with the ancient gods of Melniboné, the Chaos Lords, and thus sealing his inexorable fate.

Pulp stories shined brighter in my memories
Revisado: 07-20-23
I just finished listened to the first few books in the Eric of Melnibone books. I remember, in junior high school, loving these books. They were first multiverse stories I ever stumbled upon with multiple incarnations of the eternal champion in multiple dimensions with time lines that did not flow in parallel such that when characters met it was often the first meeting for one, but not the other. All of this seemed mind blowing back then, but now the stories, characters, and scenes all seem tissue paper thin. I won't bother continuing the stories.

Historia
They say Black Dow has killed more men than winter and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand by smiling while Black Dow claws his way any higher. The orders have been given, and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them.

I didn't realize there were versions with different narrators
Revisado: 06-15-23
As always, I loved Abercrombie's storytelling, but was caught by surprise to find a different narrator than I was accustomed to. If you have been listening to the Hachette Audio version narrated by Steven Lacey, be careful to choose that version! I'd like to stress that there is nothing at all wrong with Michael Page's performance, but it is jarring to hear new voices for familiar characters.

Warlocks Augum, Bridget, and Leera are finally able to relax after a grueling ordeal in Bahbell. But their fugitive mentor, the legendary Anna Atticus Stone, tasks them with a dangerous new quest - sneak into an ancient library and research an artifact that could devastate the Legion, and turn the tide in the war. Their substitute mentor Leopold Harvus, however, is an obsessive and petty man with a distaste for anything untoward, particularly Augum and Leera’s affections for each other. As their studies suffer from his meddling, Harvus finally pushes Augum too far.

Revisado: 12-30-22
I literally stopped listening to the book and started a new one because I was so disgusted with the writing of Mentor Harvus and the daughter of the mayor of the village. It was so two dimensional, and stupid. However once the quest began the story was thoroughly enjoyable. I honestly recommend listening to the first portion of the story at a faster speed so you get through it faster.

Some are about robots and a good number are not. I'm sure I recognized the first story from another collection I read. It's a great selection of stories, but pleases ignore Audible's decision to put it in the "Robot" time line. The stories about robots still largely adhere to the 3 laws of robotics, but that is the only link to the robots continuity.
