For anyone who wishes they could step off the treadmill we call our working lives, this book taken to heart and put into practice will be a life changer. Anticipating poor reviews by those who I have read on previous occasions claiming a book is “too Christian” or that they heard “too many verses,” I will say that it is impossible to benefit from the truths in this book without an openness to the God of the Bible and His plan for us to rest once a week.
I was refreshed to hear the author address the difference between time with God and time at church. The precepts in this book are especially insightful for those of us who are “worn out by religion” and wondering why we are so exhausted in the course of what we believe is”doing good.”
I enjoyed the many examples expressed in this book to make the concept of faithfully incorporating rest into our week a practical activity, and in telling the stories of others who have done it and been greatly blessed by God for doing so.
Reading how others’ lives were changed is always a compelling argument and this author makes good use of those types of stories.
This is not a “how-to” book, however. Putting the truths expressed here into practice will look different for each person, and is not confining, but freeing.
I just finished my first time through the book and I am already dealing with my uneasiness at unplugging once a week, and finding that my “4 tanks” (physical, emotional, mental, and Spiritual) have been empty or nearly empty for some time. I look forward to learning how to live from full “tanks” and reaping the benefits of just believing that God’s plan is not only the best for me, but also that which creates the most joy in this life.

This book is very down-to-earth. The situations portrayed in the book are easy for anyone to identify with and gain comfort from. What I gained from reading this book is that things never really are out of control, even when it looks that way to me. And when I think they are out of control, it just means they are out of "my" control. God often answers our prayers in ways we don't expect. And most of the time, looking back, I would have chosen that same solution to the problem if I had known what God knows.
Through reading (or in my case, listening to), this book, I learned that when God says "no", or takes something from me, it is because He has something better, something I may never have asked for, because I get so focused on what I think should happen, I can't even consider that I may be settling for less than what God has in mind.

This book is deceiving at first. I have read other reviews saying that it's "too much birth order" and not loyal to its title. However. those who read it to the end find that the birth order information is crucial to having success in the very helpful last chapters on actually making the changes.
Kevin Leman has hit another home run. Those of you who read just halfway through and got discouraged at the lack of helpful steps would benefit from reading the whole book.
