Historia
Few things in life are more satisfying than beating a rival. We love to win and hate to lose, whether it's on the playing field or at the ballot box, in the office or in the classroom. In this bold new look at human behavior, award-winning journalist and Olympian Matthew Syed explores the truth about our competitive nature: why we win, why we don't, and how we really play the game of life.

Malcolm Gladwell should sue!!
Revisado: 06-17-10
The first 75% of this book is the same or very similar information that malcolm galdwell talks about in his book outliers.. and the other part is filled with the author inflating his ego about his supposed "table tennis" fame. Grueling to get all the way through. Would not recommend.

Historia
Most of us would agree that there’s a clear—and even obvious—connection between the things we believe and the way we behave. But what if our actions are driven not by our conscious values and beliefs but by hidden motivations we’re not even aware of? The “hidden brain” is Shankar Vedantam’s shorthand for a host of brain functions, emotional responses, and cognitive processes that happen outside our conscious awareness but have a decisive effect on how we behave.

Starts out good - then becomes negative
Revisado: 02-23-10
This book started out really good, until you are about half way through the first portion, then it turns real negative, with the author explaining events like 9/11 or a brutal murder in great detail (as to make you relive the horror of the event) and then doesn't really explain how it is relevant to his overall theory or idea of "the hidden brain". It got to the point where I just had to shut it off and not listen to it any more - I would not purchase this book again and/or recommend it to friends or family..

Historia
Jon Katz is the New York Times best-selling author of numerous nonfiction tales of man's best friend. Here he presents the story of two dogs that profoundly affected his life and work. Amazing Book..
Revisado: 03-12-09
I am not normally one to write reviews about audio books I listen to, and this is the first one I have written in my 2 years with audible...
This book moved me so much, helping me to think about some of the amazing work people and dogs can do to help people -- and even making me cry at several points throughout the book.
I have listened to Jon's other books such as The New Work of Dogs - and they are great, but pale in comparison to this one.
Its ironic because in The New Work of Dogs he was talking about the various different and unique things other people are doing with thier dogs and now he is writting about the new work that Izzy (an amazingly insightful border collie) and Jon are doing with Hospice...

Historia
Are we "noble in reason"? Perfect, in God's image? Far from it, says New York University psychologist Gary Marcus. In this lucid and revealing book, Marcus argues that the mind is not an elegantly designed organ but a "kluge", a clumsy, cobbled-together contraption. He unveils a fundamentally new way of looking at the human mind - think duct tape, not supercomputer - that sheds light on some of the most mysterious aspects of human nature.

Not the greatest..
Revisado: 06-22-08
A little boring and far fetching... trying to relate everything to being a Kluge - and seems to over think and complicate simple items. It was okay, but not sure if I would repurchase.

This book was very interesting, entertaining, and insightful.. Would highly recommend for anyone who loves politics and/or the working of our federal government or better yet Washington DC..
But be warned it has some surprising spots in it...and it wasn't anything like I thought it was before this book!! Highly Recommend..
