Historia
The ascension of Vladimir Putin - a former lieutenant colonel of the KGB - to the presidency of Russia in 1999 should have been a signal that the country was headed away from democracy. Yet in the intervening years - as America and the world's other leading powers have continued to appease him - Putin has grown into not only a dictator but a global threat. With his vast resources and nuclear weapons, Putin is at the center of a worldwide assault on political liberty.

Best book on Russia ever
Revisado: 10-16-22
This book is very accessible to anyone, even for casual readers who want to be more informed on the subject of what happened in Russia from 1989 until 2014. Kasparov makes an amazing job at dissecting with precision every subject relevant to the modern Russian history, with special emphasis on its most sad feature – the rise to power of Putin, his KGB roots, outlook on world affairs, ideology, chronic corruption, cronyism and dismantling of democracy.I've read a lot about all that but if I could read only one book on the subject it would be this one. Special credit to the narrator who does an amazing job, the pronounciation of Russian names is correct and the style of narration is engaging.

Historia
At the end of World War II, the Soviet Union to its surprise and delight found itself in control of a huge swath of territory in Eastern Europe. Stalin and his secret police set out to convert a dozen radically different countries to Communism, a completely new political and moral system. In Iron Curtain, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anne Applebaum describes how the Communist regimes of Eastern Europe were created and what daily life was like once they were complete.

A very solid introduction to Eastern Europe
Revisado: 10-21-21
Anne Applebaum manages to deliver a very solid introduction into the Eastern Europe's post WW II history. A period just as interesting as overlooked. The book offers a very multifaceted story encompassing various themes and subjects which at the end manage to create a very precise outline of the region in these times. Strongly recommend to any English speaker who wishes to know more about the region or technicalities and deficiencies of the Soviet system. Applebaum accurately portrays the destruction brought upon countries of Europe by socialism and debunks the so called "democratic socialism". The narrator does mostly a good job with Polish and German names, a huge improvement over the disastrous mispronunciation of the Gulag.

Historia
Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

A spaghetti western in space
Revisado: 08-20-21
For me this is going to be the black sheep in the series, kind of like Alien 3. It's still feels very much like Bobiverse and milks the nostalgia of the fans but just falls short of most expectations. Even though this book is the longest in the series, approximately 90% of the time you just feel like you're in some totally different reality. It's like a Star Trek episode where they moved back in time to wild west, just really awkward and out of place. Surprisingly the most interesting are some subplots because this time it's like the Brazilian empire is the crux of the story, what used to be void filler is now the meat of the plot.

Wasted potential
Revisado: 01-31-21
I really wanted to enjoy this book, it starts out rather slowly but it's actually to its advantage, it builds the atmosphere. The amount of descriptions is truly stagerring, however, it does make you feel as if you were on Mars. Things precipitate rather quickly and second part is a total mess. The plot is centred around disputes between groups of colonists, their love affairs, endless quarells and a checkbox of cliches.

A hidden gem
Revisado: 01-04-21
The book is an interesting mix of genres, a little bit of philosophy, history, self-help and much more. Prof. Zeldin asks a lot of very profound questions and answers them in a charming and simple way by telling a history of a particular person’s life. If you like biographies in general you will love this book. It tackles so many different themes that you will never get bored. Also, the narrator does a great job. Seldom does one encounter so much wisdom in a book which, at the same time, manages to be so entertaining. Definitely one of few books that I’m planning to listen to again.

Historia
