Historia
For decades in America, car racing meant NASCAR, and to a lesser extent IndyCar, with Formula 1—the wealthiest racing league in the world—a distant third. Fast forward to 2023, and F1 has emerged at the front of the pack powered by a passionate yet nascent American fanbase. The F1 juggernaut has arrived, but this checkered flag was far from inevitable.

Case Studies in Greed, Ego, Deception, Corruption.
Revisado: 12-23-24
The factual stories are interesting, but the greed, ego, deception, and corruption by the players in this history of the F 1 industry are disturbing and animalistic. It's stuff like this that causes me to feel embarassed for being part of humanity.

Superb voicings, pauses, and emphasizing!!!
Revisado: 11-05-24
Interesting story that holds attention. The alternating story between the two main characters really works well with this author. Her Epilog describes and explains ALL, thereby wrapping up any questions the reader may have thought of during the book. During the several days that I listened to this while working on my hobbies as a retiree, it was easy to visualize the atmosphere presented whether it was on land or at sea. I frequently paused my hobby work to revel and take in the images I imagined. I'm positive that I'll be listening to this again, something I reserve for the finest of the nearly 800 books in my audio library. I'll be looking at other books by this author and other works of the narrator, a woman who really knows how to enhance a story without overdoing it.

Whiny and repetitive! How many times do we need to hear the annoying conversations? It's a valid premise, but the writing is pretty stupid.

Annoying noise can drown out MORE annoying noises.
Revisado: 08-04-24
This book is good for that. The reader's/author's VERY annoying voice works VERY well at drowning out other noises that are even MORE annoying. I gave this book a chance. I gave this book a good listen. I even repeated many parts of it to make sure I wasn't missing some thoughts or images or nuances the author was trying to convey. Turns out I didn't need to because the story is SOOOOOOOOOO unlikely to occur it really should be listed as a Fantasy novel with the characters being dragons and gnomes and elves instead of people. The physical settings are so hokey the book should be listed as a Fantasy Comic.
If I had married or shacked up with this author when she was young and cute and kinda likably corney at age 12-iish to 23-ish and her voice turned into her voice used in this book, I would have done ANYTHING to avoid having to listen to her. The voice is totally CRINGE WORTHY.
Obviously, therefore, it's no surprise that I rated Performance and Story at one star (Not for me.) But the reason I rated it Overall at two stars (It's okay), is because as alluded to above, this is a noise to hear -- not listen to -- while I'm trying to fall asleep so that I don't have to think about events that might have occured earlier during my day that I'd rather not think about because if I DID think about them I wouldn't be able to fall asleep -- or would possibly set up my subconscience for yucky nightmares. Know what I mean??!! So for these bizarre reasons, I don't totally feel comepletely bummed out for having purchased this book for a song. If I had wasted a full credit on it, however, I'd be very upset with myself. Weird, huh?
Anyhow, I'm pretty sure I won't be interested in anything else this author comes up with.

Spanning three generations and 150 years, The Lehman Trilogy is a moving epic that dares to tell the story of modern capitalism through the saga of the Lehman brothers and their descendants. Surprising and exciting, brilliant and inventive, Stefano Massini’s masterpiece - like Hamilton - is a story of immigration, ambition, and success; it is the story of America itself from a daring and original perspective.

HORRIDLY ANNOYING NARRATION!!! WOW!!!
Revisado: 06-13-24
The basic story has a POSSIBLY interesting premise but the repetition repetition repetition repetition and gag-worthy voice is too much. In audio form it makes me want to throw up and/or tear my ears off and/or stab my head with jagged chianti bottles while screaming. It's more palatable in book form because one can glaze over words and phrases. I hope to never again hear Edoardo Ballerini's voice. As for the author, Stefano Massini, I think I'd probably prefer to simply let the Italians keep the guy from getting translated. In my opinion, the devil has a new torture for hell dwellers if that's in your believe system.

Lucas Goodgame lives in Majestic, Pennsylvania, a quaint suburb that has been torn apart by a recent tragedy. Everyone in Majestic sees Lucas as a hero—everyone, that is, except Lucas himself. Insisting that his deceased wife, Darcy, visits him every night in the form of an angel, Lucas spends his time writing letters to his former Jungian analyst Karl. It is only when Eli, an 18-year-old young man whom the community has ostracized, begins camping out in Lucas’s backyard that an unlikely alliance takes shape and the two begin a journey to heal their neighbors and themselves.

SORTA SPOOFS PAIN/ART/THERAPY/HEALING/GUNS, SANITY
Revisado: 05-04-24
In one sense, this is similar to watching Bela Lugosi in an Ed Wood movie. Or maybe Mothra or King Kong or The Creature From the Black Lagoon or Frankenstein or The Werewolf while very nicely stoned. In another, it's similar to not being certain whether to laugh, cry, or do both simultaneously while being a fly on the wall during a Jungian therapy session. In even a third sense, it's similar to watching a woman -- probably your wife's best friend who is an absolute Babe -- dangling a shoe from her foot -- amazed at how she can catch it from hitting your Id or Super Ego at the last possible moment, and sometimes even imagining that she flipped it off her toes, rotated it 13 times in a ceiling-high arc, then caught it with her other foot while at the same time flipping THAT shoe just as high (you got it -- 13 times) into the air and catching it with the other foot. The metaphor of course being, "At the moment you are watching someone hang himself, can the alchemic sense of self wrap itself in angel wings while you are being hugged and shot at during the moment you are bashing someone's skull to pulp for 10 minutes?"
Well, if you find all these events extremely plausible -- and oh, don't forget you are possibly being filmed during all this -- then it's quite likely you will adore this book/dream/nightmare/reality show/therapy session/LSD trip.
As for me personally, I am still shaking my numb brain, just as I do for nearly ALL news events. I think I started this head shaking when I was about 9 or 10 years old and watching the Bay of Pigs situation on a black and white TV.
What's it all about, Alfie? PEACE OUT PEOPLE, ON THIS ANNIVERSARY OF KENT STATE. And to all you sirs and ma'ams, WITH LOVE. Puff the Magin Dragon says hi. And don't forget your beenie coptor hat. You will need it to fly away with Darcy.

“As Albert Einstein almost certainly never said, everyone is a genius—but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” So begins Katie Spalding’s spunky takedown of the Western canon, and how genius may not be as irrefutably great as we commonly understand. While most of us may never become Einstein, it may surprise you to learn that there’s probably a bunch of stuff you can do that Einstein couldn’t. And, as Spalding shows, the famous prodigies she explores here were quite odd by any definition.

Vulgar and infantile attempted humor.
Revisado: 09-13-23
The author seems to think using f bombs, potty jokes, sexual inneundos, and ill-thought-out assumed knowledge can pass for an ability or reason to write about history. The topic of history of science and technology deserves much better than this tripe.

A Perfect Spook's Spoof of, Yes, Seriosity. EVEN!
Revisado: 09-02-23
Sort of like enduring a combination of Jim Carey and Stalin narrating The Breakfast Club while hanging onto a cliff wall above shark infested waters with bullet holes snapping into my body. And snakes. With spiders. Oh, and Cheech and Chong thrown in often. Nauseating speech patterns and repeated use of EVEN. I can not BEGIN to imagine what it was like to be raised by a guy like this. Anal behavior, even, yes EVEN worse then standing if front of a mirror, yes a mirror, and watching yourself gag yourself into puking. Yes. Even. Puking. Not even, YES EVEN, The Great Santini could possibly have a leg, yes, even a LEG up on this voice, behavior, and thought patterns. I came SO close to throwing up much too often, BUT IT HURT SO GOOD TO HEAR.

Audible presents an original dramatisation of Charles Dickens' Dombey and Son, first published as Dealings with the Firm of Dombey and Son: Wholesale, Retail and for Exportation. A literary masterpiece in which Dickens' gift for vivid characterisation is at its best, this is the story of a powerful man whose inability to appreciate those around him leads to his lonely demise and, later, his possible redemption.

Rollercoaster of real emotions and perceptions.
Revisado: 03-07-23
I have lived 70 years full of many emotions... love, loss, physical and mental pain, joy, hate, pride, envy, jealousy, gluttony, bankruptcy, PTSD, surgeries, boredom, frenzied activity... much too much at times... and not enough at other times.
Dickens' ability to show, tell, and emote ALL emotions is supernatural. The man exhibits and shares with us total humaness in both its blazing glory and its demonic evil.
There were times during this audio that I had to take a break from the cruel but reality based episodes portrayed, There were also times when the affirmations of human joy made me realize how fortunate it is to be alive at times.
I am in awe of this writer. Thank you, Audible, for such a splendid narration.
