Historia
Steven Rinella (The MeatEater Podcast) and Clay Newcomb (MeatEater's Bear Grease podcast) gather listeners for a new round of stories, this time drawing from the lives of the rugged Long Hunters, who include such figures as Daniel Boone, Henry Skaggs, and Kasper Mansker. These were the commercial hunters and trappers who explored and exploited the First Far West, the land across the Appalachian Mountains, in the era between the Seven Years War and the American Revolution—one of the most fabled periods of American history.

Many misconceptions were unseated from my misunderstanding of the long hunters and their place in colonial and early American history. The masterful rendering does factual history a deep service.

Here to rescue the reputations of our Founding Fathers from the plague of modern political correctness is The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Founding Fathers. Author and Professor Brion McClanahan shows how patriots like Franklin, Madison, and Hamilton laid the foundations of American civil liberty and had a better understanding of the problems facing us today than our current Congress.

High entertainment for the pocket projector crowd
Revisado: 08-01-24
Rust seems an unlikely story but the author reaches into obscure and overlooked places and the lives of often equally obscure people to bring forth an entertaining story of the builders and their nemesis—corrosion. As a technician who daily battles corrosion in electronics and mechanics, I enjoyed this narrative of rust in its broad scope and persistent intrusion upon all the materials and designs of our best and brightest engineers.

Good explanation of the dangers of processed foods. However, it goes off the rails into plant-based eating—which is slow poisoning. A case of jumping out of the fire and into the frying pan.

Exactly right! Medicine is now a foul trap.
Revisado: 12-02-22
Dr Berry tells it like I have experienced it with my doctor and my health journey. General practice medicine has become a racket: big pharmaceutical companies have built a profit-engine paradigm through the medical schools and governing bodies. The doctors are ensnared in it, and we patients are the unwitting victims. The watch word decades ago was “Seeking the cure”: now it is “Developing therapies”. The intent is to manage an ever-growing income base of sick people who pay for drugs and services as their health declines, That is the intent, to make them even more profitable to the twisted system managing and reaping profits from their misery. Dr Berry does not say that in his book; he only gives the doctor frustration within the evil system. But it is easy for the reader to see the bigger picture. Thank you, Doctor Berry!

Historia
The memoirs of Civil War generals are some of our most common sources that we look at when learning about this tumultuous conflict. But what about the voices of the common soldier? Frank Wilkeson aimed to rectify this and reassert the importance of looking at the accounts of the men who carried the muskets, served the guns, and rode into the heat of battle. Recollections of a Private Soldier in the Army of the Potomac is a wonderfully refreshing account of the American Civil War that takes listeners to the heart of what it would have been like to have served in the front ranks.

Historia
The rulers’ mistakes are paid for with the blood of the people. This is shown in history both recent and ancient, time and time again. It was no different for an Austrian mountain farmer’s son who was thrown into the carnage of the Eastern Front. He was in the prime of his youth, and the German Reich was already close to losing the war. In ripe-old age, he remembers those dark hours that have haunted him throughout his life.
