Such an engaging story!

The life of Allene Tew demonstrates that one should never allow disappointments to get in the way of moving forward in life. Fascinating story—and wow—the narrator, Teri Schnaubelt, did a wonderful job! I believe she could read almost any story and make it interesting.

Excellent story that quickly draws you into the narrative

This is a fascinating story involving people who lived in Italy during World War 2. I was especially interested in this novel since the people in the story were real. The narration was excellent—and the writing was superb!

So Predictable

The premise of this story is interesting, but the story itself was very predictable. I'm not usually skilled with predicting outcomes in novels, but this one was very easy to predict every step of the way. I prefer more challenging novels.

Heartwarming Story

This novel was nicely written, and it kept me interested. The narrator read the story well--with lots of expression. However, I prefer listening to narrators who have a different quality of voice than this narrator. I like listening to narrators with a mellow voice.

Excellent narrator!

What an excellent narrator! He has a voice quality that is easy to listen to for hours, which is good since this is a long book. The story was very interesting to me even though the story line seemed preposterous the last couple of chapters. Overall, it was a very good story.

Beautifully narrated!

The narrator did a wonderful job reading this book. She has an easy to listen to voice quality as well as excellent expression and pacing. As one who listens to many audiobooks, I can tell you this narrator is a cut above the rest of them!

Interesting story; different narrator needed

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was somewhat well-spent time, since I enjoy listening to audiobooks while I'm driving and while I am gardening

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I was motivated to continue listening to the story because the main character was determined to get through the challenges and heartache she faced. Her problems were not sugar-coated with undue cheerfulness, so she came across as a believable woman who faced a full spectrum of feelings.

Would you be willing to try another one of Sergei Burbank’s performances?

The narration sounded very stilted to me. It was a good story, and listening to it could have been more enjoyable if the narration had been done by someone who could read it with more "feeling." I believe this narrator would be much more effective narrating non-fiction books.

Good Story; Too detailed

I really cared about the two main characters. However the story seemed to have numerous details about other characters that slowed the narrative unnecessarily. I wish I had known before I bought this audiobook that the narrator had a strong Australian accent. Because I have a hearing loss, I had difficulty understanding some of it as an American who rarely hears that accent. Since this story was told mostly from the male character's point of view, I think the narration would have been more effective if there had been a male narrator instead. The writing was very realistic, making it easy for me to get engrossed in the story.

Engrossing Story

This was a very interesting book that was well written. I was able to empathize with every person the author described, including her. The narration was disappointing to me as she read too quietly for me to hear at times. She read much of it under her breath, making it very difficult for me to understand what she was saying. Very frustrating for me because the story was so interesting that I wanted to hear every word!

Fascinating Story; Outstanding Narration!

I learned a lot about the point of view of World War 2 soldiers and civilians through this book. Since I didn't really want so many details about the combat, I skipped chapters now and then. However, I am confident I got the most important parts of the book. The narrator's excellent voice quality and superb expression made listening to this audiobook a pleasure!
