Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Best “heart-toucher” ever
Revisado: 02-14-23
The power of love, of “community”, of seeing the best in others, of feeling empathy, and of overcoming one’s pride to take hold of those rare second chances we are given…love, love, love this book.
Backman gave us a sweet gift to reflect on for our own journeys, and in all fairness, JK Simmons is the only person who could ever properly bring these characters to life—his performance was so moving.
(And yes, a tear came to my eye when the book finally ended…and that’s ok.)
I think I’ll call my wife now. I just need to hear her voice, see how she’s doing, how her day is going… 😉❣️

Totally hooked…
Revisado: 07-13-22
This series continues to delightfully reel me in. I thought the different setting of the war would diminish my enjoyment, but each Amelia book, and this was no exception, deepens the wonderful experience and journey I am having with the Emerson family.
Great writing, excellent characters and story, and I wouldn’t dare listen to an Amelia book without Barbara Rosenblatt’s amazing performance!
Enjoy this book by Elizabeth Peters, I highly recommend.

But days after Beryl's appearance before the bench, she and Edwina pay a visit to the magistrate only to find his home ransacked and the man himself lying dead at the bottom of a grand staircase. Given the state of the house, his death appears to be connected to a rash of robberies in the village.

Historia
"Red beef and strong beer" was how C. S. Lewis described his education under one of his early tutors. It was, in other words, a substantial education that engaged deeply with the intellectual tradition and challenged him to grow. Gary Selby sees Lewis' expression as an indication of the kind of transformation that is both possible and necessary for the Christian faith, and he contends that spiritual formation comes about not by retreating from the physical world, but through deeper engagement with it.

The JOY of the Lord...
Revisado: 08-22-19
What an excellent book! If you admire CSL, and especially have read some of his books, Selby brings the joy that Lewis discovered in God and shows how it was that essential element for his life, his faith, and all that he wrote.
I love how the CSL books were used by Selby—perfect selections to make his point.
Very encouraging, I want the “Aha” joy moment Selby experienced for my faith too!
