THIS is the intro to modern AI I've wanted!
Revisado: 11-09-23
Since the recent AI boom, I've been hungry for audio books to bring me up to speed on the topic. The first two I read ("Ultimate Guide to ChatGPT" and "The Art of Mastering Prompt Engineering for Chat-GPT Made Simple") were filled with fluff and padding with very little useful information. They felt like opportunistic cash-grabs written by folks who know how to optimize for catching the trend.
THIS book feel written by someone who actually knows what they're talking about. Flaugher covers actual academic AI research and theory in a way that is digestible for a general audience. I am an engineer and I learned a lot. In addition to understanding more about the how and why AI works, the book covers a multitude of practical example applications of Generative AI and LLMs spanning research, finance, business, government, and web applications.
If you're interested in learning more about AI, you'll probably want to read a few books on the topic. You will not be disappointed starting here.

This may be helpful for a person who has never heard of Chat-GPT, but there is nothing in here that is particularly educational. There’s not even a mention of Plugins, Custom Instructions, Advanced Data Analysis Mode, or Vision (though that is newer than the book, so not the author’s fault there). You’re time would be much better spent researching on the web or listening to 3 hrs of Chat-GPT podcasts.

Could have been a forgettable blog post
Revisado: 10-05-23
The book clocks in at what I assume is just about the minimum amount of runtime for Audible to accept it, it doesn’t provide any more illuminating or actionable content than you would get from googling “how to use chat-gpt” and randomly reading the first link. When I bought the book, it had 55 5-star ratings, so I’m guessing there is a “book rating package” for 50 5-star ratings you can buy from a service. It's funny that all of the 5-star reviews seem to have happened on the same day 09-01-23

Garbage. Stay away.

Sounds like it was written by a high school sophomore. Performance includes the reader stumbling, sighing, and restarting the passage. Information is outdated, at times misleading, and at points flat out incorrect.

In the 24 engaging lectures of The Nature of Matter, no scientific background is needed to appreciate such miracles of everyday life as a bouncing rubber ball or water's astonishing power to dissolve. Moreover, the study of matter has led directly to such inventions as semiconductor circuits for computers, new fabrics for clothes, and powerful adhesives for medicine and industry.

95% Chemistry, 5% Physics
Revisado: 09-06-16
Given the title, I expected this books to discuss matter in terms of particle physics, but this is basically a chemistry book. Granted, a discussion of chemistry is warranted when discussing the nature of matter, but I had expected much much less. The book wasn'd bad per se, just not what I expected given the title.

Historia
Bestselling author, speaker, and world-traveling success coach Jen Sincero cuts through the din of the self-help genre with her own verbal meat cleaver in You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life. In this refreshingly blunt how-to guide, Sincero serves up 27 bite-sized chapters full of hilariously inspiring stories, life-changing insights, easy exercises, and the occasional swear word.

Title misrepresents tone of content
Revisado: 07-29-14
What disappointed you about You are a Badass?
With a stand-out title like "You are a Badass", I expected a down-to-earth, rough around the edges perspective on the self-betterment theme. The LAST thing I expected was more of the same new-age speak that tends to pervade this genre. While the book contains chapters titled like "Your brain is your bitch", the actual content veers into discussions of communicating with the "source energy" of the universe, and "raising your vibrations" through meditation to fulfill your visions. The dissonance between how the book presents itself and the actual content was enough to prompt me to write this review to help inform future potential buyers.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The book is not without its helpful points and uplifting message- I did enjoy aspects of it. However, I'm offended by what seems to me to be a manipulative marketing angle using "curse words" in the title and chapter titles as an attempt to set this book aside from the sea of other self-development books that have similar content and approach.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was great!
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from You are a Badass?
As editor, I would have strongly suggested the author remove or rework aspects that veer into new-age speak. "Raising your frequency", "vibrations", "source energy", "yoga", "mantras" are what a book titled "You are a Badass" should NOT contain. With as much time as this books spends on these topics, I'd suggest it be titled "Raising Your Vibrations: How to tap into the Source Energy of the Universe" - then readers would get what they paid for.
Any additional comments?
The title / cover marketing of this book was successful in that they convinced me to buy the book, but a failure in conveying the mood of the content.

Historia
In a rare blend of scientific insight and writing as elegant as the theories it explains, Brian Greene, one of the world's leading string theorists, peels away the layers of mystery surrounding string theory to reveal a universe that consists of 11 dimensions where the fabric of space tears and repairs itself, and all matter-from the smallest quarks to the most gargantuan supernovas-is generated by the vibrations of microscopically tiny loops of energy.

The most illuminating book on cutting edge physics
Revisado: 07-24-12
What made the experience of listening to The Elegant Universe the most enjoyable?
Explanation of string theory and it's consequences for physics
What other book might you compare The Elegant Universe to and why?
Brief History of Time
Have you listened to any of Erik Davies’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The foreword by the Author thrilled me as it set the stage for what I was about to learn
Any additional comments?
As a non-physicist, it can be intimidating to attempt to grapple with modern theoretical physics. However, Brian Greene makes the edges of this developing pursuit understandable to those who wish to learn about it. I'm considering listening to it twice, both for pleasure and to have a second pass to more deeply understand the amazing consequences of this field.
