This book grabbed my interest for both the cover design and the synopsis- especially the part about it being like To All the Boys I Loved Before, but only if Lara Jean wrote hate notes instead of love letters!

I had extremely high expectations of this book! I even got it on audio too so I could listen to it at night, and I had stayed up way too late at night listening to it!

I had originally thought this one would be more (academic) rivals to lovers, but it’s definitely a true enemies to lovers, so if you’re a fan of that trope, check this book out!

I also found Sadie very relatable to how I used to be, and even still am a little bit today. It was encouraging to watch her learn to love herself and let go of what others thought.

And if you love an ultra slow burn, this one is for you!

Overall, I rate this one:

With or Without You was a unique contemporary romance that surprised me, but in a good way. Just from the cover alone, I wouldn’t have guessed this book would be about two teenagers who are sort of “star crossed lovers” in a modern Romeo & Juliet type situation. Well, not quite exactly. But if you read it, you’ll see what I mean.

The competition of the food truck off and the fake fighting and enemies to lovers vibes the two put on for onlookers is quite cute and comical. But when a producer turns it into a reality tv show, the fake fighting reached a new level. And I didn’t like it, but I think that’s the point trying to be made.

It led to real fighting and some of the insults and actions the two pulled on each other were very hurtful in my opinion. I didn’t like all of the manipulation from adults in this book, seeing as these two main characters were newly graduated from high school. That part felt wrong. But I guess, that’s a reality for some people! I think the Cindy and Jared situation was awful, and found it to be quite betraying. I agreed with some of the feelings Cindy had, but she shouldn’t have let it go that far.

I won’t spoil it, but I will say I thought this book had a great turn around and an ending I did not quite expect! The last few chapters I didn’t see coming, and I found that unpredictability and surprise factor to be quite brilliantly tied up at the end.

Overall, I rate this one:

Quite honestly, I never understood how a mystery could be “cozy” until I tried one…which was this one!📚
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I usually avoid most mysteries or thrillers because I can’t take them and they give me anxiety. But this wasn’t like that at all! Just because it didn’t scare me though, didn’t mean there was no mystery! 🕵🏻‍♀️
I chose the audiobook format of this book, and I LOVED the narrator, who was perfect for this series (the book I reviewed is book 1 in the Owl Nest Mysteries series). Narrator & Produce Maren Swenson sadly passed and the author’s new release, A Felonious Finale was Maren’s last produced work (part of this series). She had such personality when reading that really brightened the story and gave it life!
In the first novel, Alexa Owl is tasked to travel back in time to 1953 to help Bobby Star solve 3 murders and therefore allow him to be a guardian angel.
I loved how the cat waited faithfully for her owner’s mystery to be solved before she could peacefully join her.🥺💕 I’m still curious about the cat!
The story unfolds so well and also so mysterious that I wasn’t able to guess the ending- the best part of a mystery book is when it makes sense but you can’t crack it until looking back!
I would consider continue reading the series, and overall I rate it:
Book Review:
I absolutely LOVED this book SO much! Words cannot describe how satisfying it was to finally have answers and to read this after binge reading the first two and then having to wait for the ending to come out. Especially on the cliffhanger that book 2 ended off on! (I am trying to be relatively vague, as I don’t want to give any major spoilers away to those who haven’t read it yet).
The angst and anxiety I felt throughout this book was unreal, and it was certainly one of those books I had trouble pausing (I had an audiobook copy for my preorder when I read and finished this last month). There were plenty of twists and turns, things I saw coming and predicted, where others I was totally not expecting.
This isn’t really a spoiler, but I can’t not include in my review that Prince Apollo is literally the absolute WORST. 😂
And while I wasn’t a huge fan of Jacks in the Caraval series, I couldn’t help but ship Jacks with Evangeline and root for the two of them throughout the whole series of OUABH.
Overall, I rate this book:
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 Stars (5/5)
I can’t really share much else without going into spoilers, so I’ll just keep it to this for now!
While this whole series was stellar for me, and I rated them all 5 Stars, Book Two (The Ballad Of Never After) in this series will always be my favorite! 😍
✨BOOK REVIEW✨
I just finished buddy-reading “The Ballad Of Never After” with my mom and sister, and um…okay. So the ending?! AHHHHHHHH.😱
I need answers. I won’t go into particular details because I don’t want to spoil this book for anyone who has yet to read it. But if you haven’t read the series or started it and wasn’t a fan, this book out of ALL the Caraval and OUABH series is by far my favorite! There’s so much angst, intrigue, mystery, and passion in the writing (and possibly between some characters).
There still were some creepy moments or even scary, to me, which as stated before, I usually don’t like. But it helped bring on the tragedy and give it more depth. There’s so much within this story and absolutely no closure! 🙃🫠🥴
Yeah, so… I’m fine? Not really.💔
Needless to say I cannot wait for the third book to release and devour it ASAP!😧 if you can’t tell, I’m just a little shook 🫨!
Overall I rate this one:
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 Stars (5/5)
(This is the first book of the Caraval and OUABH that surpassed 4 stars and made it to five for me!) So don’t give up if you aren’t feeling it at first, it definitely improves! 🥳
The Narrator on Audible is also fantastic!
BOOK REVIEW
Wow! I did the audio of this book and the narration was great. I loved how it was set in the world of Caraval and some characters from the series came into play. It allowed you to be brought back into that world without it being more of the same. This book was entirely different from the Caraval ones, yet also had a familiarity to it because of how she wrapped and merged the two together to ultimately create a new story.
Since Caraval left with Jacks on the run, we get more closure as this one starts with him and he is intermixed within the whole rest of the story. I started out thinking the story would be about him, but it actually is more directed toward Evangeline and her character.
I found the characters more relatable, yet also exotic and out there. Everything surprised me, and you kept switching from who to trust. And some moments had me just on the edge of my seat or feeling sad and sorry for the characters…
This is definitely one to add to the TBR.
Except, the vampire stuff creeped me out. Not going to lie.😅😬 In my defense, I’ve never been interested in any vampire tales, but this was veeeery far from Twilight and more on the lines of…worst nightmares?
Overall, my rating is:
BOOK REVIEW
I am so excited and a little saddened to finish this series. So much went down and tables turned that I feel like the ending wasn’t really the end but it’s more of a…beginning. Like it’s just the start of the storyline. I’d love to see what happens after, but at the same time, the story has to come to a close eventually and it might as well end on a happier note (my personal preference is HEA endings).
I can’t decide if Legendary or Finale was my favorite of this series. Finale had more creepy things and gory moments than Legendary (I think?) but at the same time it had such a driven and intriguing plot, and it was fascinating to see the fates on the loose and how everything would play out.
This one had me frustrated, worried, laughing, and getting tense thinking how are they possibly going to “undo” this? Or escape and win?
One thing I LOVE in stories is character development and growth. And boy this one had it. I’m not wanting to spoil anything, but I’m happy ultimately with the outcome and all the depth that was added to Legend (especially at the end).
Overall, I rate this one:
🌟🌟🌟🌟.✨/5 Stars (4.5 Stars)
I will definitely be reading the spin off Once Upon a Broken Heart to find out more in the magical fictional world this author has created.
BOOK REVIEW
Princess and the Pea meets The Selection in this exciting new fairytale retelling by Kayla Eshbaugh ! I’ve actually never read the original fairytale, but I knew enough about it to be drawn in by the idea. I have never seen a retelling for this tale yet, and this one did not disappoint!
With a meet-fight (instead of a “meet cute”) our main characters don’t hit it off at first, creating that initial teasing, sort of banter that many find appealing in a romance setting! This turns into an instant attraction for these young, inexperienced lovers, and has the nostalgic first love vibes going. Mix in some handwritten and secretly delivered love letters and humor, and it’s hard NOT to ship these two together!🥹
Our prince has several princesses “fighting” for his hand, (hence the reminiscence of The Selection series for me), but we get his POV as well as hers, so we know that he couldn’t care less about the other ladies’ attention being on him. He only wants to impress one lady, his true love!
I also seriously related to Elise, and loved the disability rep we had with her. It is so rare to have disabilities included in a book, but for a princess? I LOVED the author’s twist here. I related so much to her emotions but yet her high ambitions and dreams, and not wanting to let it limit or define her.💪🏼❤️‍🩹
I won’t spoil the rest of the story, or it’s ending, but I definitely recommend checking it out! I will be reading more by this author in the future! 🤩
This was such a quick and action packed read! I listened on audio and the narrator was great at voicing Tella. Though I like Scarlet best out of the sisters, I did enjoy the switched POV to Donatella in this one, and getting to see her view on Caraval and the world, and get to learn more about her and what makes her the way she is.
While I found some of this book to be predictable, there were still many shocking and exciting moments that drew me into the story and wanted me to continue to push on reading.
I wasn’t a fan of the misunderstanding and miscommunication between Scarlet and Julian, and the whole thing of her being wishy-washy as to if she wants to give him another chance while also giving Nicholas a chance…it doesn’t seem fitting to her character for me as she always plays things safe, and while I admit she’s given Julian several opportunities to prove himself, I know things will get messy and the ball will drop eventually.
I can’t wait to read Finale and see how everything wraps up! And to see what will come of Donatella and Legend, as well as their newly returned mother. And what about all the fates running lose?! SCARY.
I actually found this book to be a good fantasy, unique in that it mixed reality with fantasy elements. I wasn’t expecting the darkness that it had. There were some scary scenes and creepy moments that I didn’t anticipate and was surprised to hear. It gave the book more of suspense vibes, when I was expecting more of a fun game/ romance and more of the interaction between the two sisters. But they didn’t have very many moments together or interactions throughout most of the story,..
It was hard to keep track of what was real and what was fake, it had me changing my opinions and views of characters constantly.
The father gave me the creeps and I found him to be quite disturbing. I liked how at the end the girls are “free” of him. But I don’t know how I feel about Donatella’s plan and how it played out. I do feel it was too much and unfair to Scarlet.
I’m excited to see how the next book proceeds and what happens. I have my fingers crossed that it won’t have quite so many of the stressful, scary moments, and will be able to be more drama/fantasy, and light!
The epilogue has me thinking already about what all is going to go down!
