Cool for the Summer is a cute summer read about love and self-discovery, that will probably work best for queer and questioning teenagers.

Despite my original less-than-stellar rating for the book, I felt that the audiobook version deserved more.
Natalie Naudus is a gifted narrator, with an extraordinary ability to infuse passion in the characters she inhabits.
I'm pretty sure she could narrate a love story between two cast iron radiators, and still manage to bring me to tears.

I enjoyed the story, and loved how the author made it clear that it's ok to be queer regardless of any labels. That, to me, was the most important message in the book.

This was my first book by Adler, and I went in without any expectations.
Despite that, the character work felt a bit weak.
And while that didn't detract from the overall message, a stronger characterisation would have made the book more enjoyable for this reader and possibly other more mature readers.

I discovered The Gown of Harmonies thanks to C.S.E. Cooney's blog post about the labour of love that was this audio production.
Knowing that all proceeds would support food banks during a pandemic made the purchase a no-brainer.
I was rewarded with a lovely story, well narrated and definitely worth the listening time.

Highly recommended!

Full disclosure: I received a copy of Holly & Ivy from a giveaway organised by the authors.

Holly & Ivy is an enjoyable romance between a burned out millionaire genius and a small town social worker.
I liked the humour, loved the side character of Morgan, and would gladly pay for more scenes with Blue Bell the yogi goat.
Murphy's narration was as good as usual, and suited the story well.
Despite all this, my rating is a bit low this time due to a couple of issues I have with the story.

The first one is a matter of personal preference, related to how the sexual attraction between the two leads develops throughout the story. I am not a huge fan of the approach the authors chose, and struggled to feel a connection between the sex scenes and the characters' arcs.
Again, this is extremely personal and I'm sure other listeners will appreciate the authors' choice.

The second is related to Holly's decision to use personal data collected by her company for her own purpose.
Data privacy is a huge issue for anyone in Holly's position, and I find it hard to like a character who resorts to this kind of unprofessional, unethical conduct on a whim. I suppose this is also something listeners might overlook, depending on their level of awareness on the matter.

Overall, Holly & Ivy is a good listen and an audiobook many listeners will love.

Alone is one of the best books I've had the pleasure of reading in 2019, and my favourite so far in Noyes' body of work.
More of a psychological novel than "just" a romance, its first person narration had me completely engrossed in Celeste's experiences and tribulations, and rooting for her all along.

I could hardly resist the lure of this audiobook version, and was rewarded by a masteful performance by genre favourite Abby Craden.
This is Noyes and Craden at their best, and you might want to listen to it more than once.

Highly recommended.

Another great book by Noyes, and an excellent sequel to Ask, Tell.

The first person past tense narration, with alternating points of view, is purposefully chosen and well executed. I love how this approach allows the listener to hear both sides of the story, and understand how Sabine and Rebecca are dealing with their new situation.
Most of all, I love how the intertwining of the leads' arcs as the two struggle to support each other and how that culminates in their final epiphany.

The Audiobook version is enriched by Abby Craden's excellent narration. No surprises there, because she's great at this :)
Definitely a recommended listen.

Letters to Cupid is a heartwarming romance, and exactly what I have come to expect from Miranda MacLeod.
Stephanie Murphy's narration complements MacLeod's sweet romances to perfection. Her voice and pacing are the whipped cream to MacLeod's hot cocoa.

My one complaint about this book is that, as a native, I found the stereotypes about Tuscany and Italians a bit much.
To the author's credit, though, those did not bother me beyond their initial appearance. The book was so much fun, and the characters so real and relatable, that I couldn't hold a grudge for presenting the setting as most readers would envision it.

Bonus points for the lack of miscommunication and other forms of relationship drama.

I would recommend this audiobook to anyone looking for a sweet, heartwarming romance listen.

Taken By Storm holds a special place in my heart, as one of the first lesbian fiction books I ever read and an early favourite.

This is a book I love to go back to, because Baldwin makes you feel like you're in the middle of the action.
Coleen Marlo's voice and pacing are a great fit for it, accentuating the danger and urgency of the cast's predicaments.
You won't just root for the characters, here. You'll find yourself with them, buried under an avalanche, huddling close to ward off the freezing cold.
A great, immersive adventure with a dash of romance.

Holme for the Holidays starts off on a gloomy tone, due to the events setting stage for one of the MCs' arc.
This is an unusual be courageous choice in this genre, and potential listeners should not let themselves be scared away by it.
Those who stick with the book will be rewarded with wintry Yorkshire landscapes, a lively and tight knit village community, and a healthy dose of holiday spirit.

Stephanie Murphy's voice was an excellent match for the story.
Like a hot drink and a blanket on a rainy day, this audiobook will give you feelings of warmth and coziness.

Holme for the Holidays brought me Christmas in August. If holiday spirit is what you're looking for, go get it!

Backwards to Oregon is a thoroughly researched, believable historical novel and one of my favourites among Jae's works.
While this is primarily being marketed as a romance, the setting allows for a strong focus on the main characters' development as they deal with the daily challenges of a pioneer's life.
The character work alone would be enough to warrant a recommendation, because this is something Jae excels at.

Hayden Bishop's narration blew me away, Her work brought Jae's characters to life, and made a great book even better.

Overall, this audiobook will appeal to a broader audience than just fans of historical fiction (of which I am not one).
Highly recommended if you're looking for a believable pioneer adventure, a slow burn romance, or "just" a great audiobook for your listening pleasure.
