Historia
Being a black woman in America means contending with old prejudices and fresh absurdities every day. Comedian Phoebe Robinson has experienced her fair share over the years: She's been unceremoniously relegated to the role of "the black friend", as if she is somehow the authority on all things racial; she's been questioned about her love of U2 and Billy Joel ("isn't that...white people music?"); she's been called "uppity" for having an opinion in the workplace; and yes, people do ask her whether they can touch her hair all. The. Time.

Black girl ranting but really wants to be white
Revisado: 05-29-19
I am a black girl. Lets get that out there. I was expecting more from this book. All i can take away is that Phoebe grew up like the rest of us (tortured, satirized, and annoyed with questions) but really seems to idolize white people secretly. She dates white people and even included one in her book to explain to her niece how "great white people were". WTF was the point of this book? Yes, she had some relatable themes throughout however the book is really a "I wish white people liked me as much as I love them" type of vibe. Read/ listen to it while drunk. That's all I have to say.

WTF
Revisado: 04-29-19
I am STILL trying to figure out the point of this book. Georgia is a bitter, old, lonely, mean ho and she has a terrible friend named Wanda who is crass and gives her bad advise. This book is trash and I will never read another Terry McMillan book again because clearly it is only for bitter women.

The nastiest fiction I have ever read
Revisado: 02-07-19
The entire plot with the disturbing disgusting mess. This book should’ve never been written or if it had been written it should’ve been a different plot line. There was no reason to write a book this gory. Especially with the subject matter being what it was. If you have been a victim of rape or sexual assault or have been a abducted at any point in your life please do not read this book.

Interesting viewpoint less than satisfying ending
Revisado: 10-26-16
I like VCMs books but expected more from this one. I don't know why because that was not fair to her. It was a good read and simple enough to listen to passively. she's a great writer but I need more action and spice. Very churchy which is not surprising since she writes church based books

Historia
Why exactly Charley Bordelon's late father left her eight hundred sprawling acres of sugarcane land in rural Louisiana is as mysterious as it was generous. Recognizing this as a chance to start over, Charley and her 11-year-old daughter, Micah, say good-bye to Los Angeles. They arrive just in time for growing season but no amount of planning can prepare Charley for a Louisiana that's mired in the past: as her judgmental but big-hearted grandmother tells her, cane farming is always going to be a white man's business.

Revisado: 06-30-16
Although Bobby's cadence while reading gets annoying (lol) the content and flow was exceptional! He gave us the truth after so many years of lies. It was also hilarious at some points. He knows and loves in his truth. That's refreshing. Go Bobby!!

Historia
Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination. Rose Mary painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family; she called herself an "excitement addict."
