The narrator did ok. She was definitely better than AI. I sped up the reading speed to 1.15 because her monotone and staccato style was dragging the performance.
The monotony prevented investment or endearment of the primary characters, and interfered with the suspension of reality... It felt very stilted, and although I love LONG epic series in general, this isn't easy to get through.
The story was creative, and built an interesting world, in spite of the performance.

the narrator used the same feminine version of her for all non-speaking dialog.

Since much of it was the in-between/descriptive/inner monolog, this made quite the challenge to keep track of Who was actually the focus of inner dialogue.

This created a disconnect with every chapter, every paragraph, every sentence, since the 'silent' voice for each character sounded the same. "Who is that from again?" wasn't a fun game.
I was used to narrators representing a character using that character's diction to cover all words, thoughts, description from that character.

This is the very first time I've encountered this issue, in all the 1000s of books I've listened to.

The distraction from the plot line made this too difficult, removed the suspension of reality, and kinda ruined it for me. I had to restart several chapters just to figure out who was the focus- thinking, describing, positing.

I liked the series well enough, would probably have enjoyed reading it more...

The female narrator did alright when in FMC mode, but her other character voices, especially the male voices....gahhh...the monotonously enunciated nasal staccato for each & every other character was EXTREMELY annoying.
I have to wonder...do the narrators ever sit through listening to the entirety of the book they've just recorded?!
The male narrator gets 5 stars.

Good narration is key.
My disconnect began with the mispronounced main character names...Ophelia is pronounced "ow FEELyuh" not "ow FELLyuh". Corrin pronounced "CORR in" would have been masculine..."corr IN" is a feminine name.

The males sound like prepubescent boys.

Add to that the incorrect words... here are a few examples of the 100+ album scratching mistakes throughout this series:
"Abdominal Snowman" (Abominable Snowman)
"He could not resist the INEXPLORABLE pull of the portal" (inexhorable)
"He gave her a Wayne smile" (wan)
"She sat up, her hair MUSED" (mussed)

This completely disrupted the suspension of reality for me, as I rewound on each one, to ensure I had heard what I had heard. There were a lot.

As to the story, this was the longest NO BURN, most chaste romance I've listened to, to date. He proposed in the last 30 minutes.
She turned 18 mid series. They spent 55 hours enjoying kissing occasionally between battling evils, sleeping in separate chambers, and interacting in a sugary mutual admiration fashion. The relationship never developed depth of feeling.
The premise of this series had a lot of potential, but never reached it. It ended up 2 dimensional.

I had to rewind many chapters, because I zoned out as it played. I forced myself to finish, because I purchased it. The struggle was real.

This felt like an early endeavor of this author. I have no idea if it was.
I would categorize this series appropriate for young adults, except some of the battle scenes could be considered disturbing. There are hostage, torture, forcible overtaking of individual will, and magic that creates zombies.

I like all Grace Goodwin books...this was a good collaboration. Tor Thom did a good job.
Will there be another? I half expected an Emily + Eric hook-up...

I slogged through the first book

but couldn't continue through the second. this narrator is as close to Virtual Voice for her dispassionate delivery as I've heard yet. She made the characters lack depth or connection, or maybe that was how they were written. Storyline failed to suspend reality, or relatability to the characters and their "instalust" relationships lacked depth or development. very 2 dimensional.

The steaminess was colorful and well written, I guess. I found Cassandra sounded like a cartoon character, and her male voice sounded like he sucked helium after listening to John's deep baritone. I felt it was a little on the porn side, Lucas sounded like a hound dog. A bit more time could have been spent on relationship development/character development. I guess if you're looking for titillating, this would do it for you.

First, the narrators sound like middle aged voices, the female sounded like a gritty long term smoker. Not the worst, I really hate nasal speakers, and this wasn't too bad.
The world created wasn't relatable, the characters cold and emotionally flat. I'm not through it yet, but I'm struggling to finish.

loved the whole series!

Therese Plummer did a phenomenal job bringing the people, places, and situations to life in audio color.
I binge listened to the entire Thunder Point series, and fell in love with all of the characters. The story lines encompassed laughter, sorrow, struggles, love, pain, and perfectly imperfect humanity. I love the community Robyn Carr created, and was sad when I finished the last book. I look forward to exploring more of one of my new favorite author's library.
