Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Should be required reading for EVERYONE
Revisado: 05-11-23
The fact that these tactics aren’t implemented everywhere by everyone is a complete miscarriage of justice. And the fact that CPTSD still is t a diagnosis really exemplifies what’s wrong with this nation.

Historia
In the futuristic city of Tabula Ra$a, Zoey Ashe is like a fish so far out of water that it has achieved orbit. After inheriting a criminal empire, the 23-year-old finds herself under threat from all sides as a rogue's gallery of larger-than-life enemies think they smell weakness. On the eve of the world's most ridiculous Halloween celebration, a steamer trunk-sized box arrives at Zoey's door, and she is shocked to find that it contains a disemboweled corpse. She's even more shocked when that corpse, controlled by an unknown party, rises and goes on a rampage through the house.

Perfect Amount of Action and Absurdity
Revisado: 04-21-21
David Wong is becoming an all-time favorite author of mine and I can’t wait until the next Zoey book!
Zoey is incredibly relatable and fallible, but she ends up surprising you in the best possible ways. I appreciate her witty banter and the touch of absurdity that we get, being just slightly ahead in the future.
Do yourself a favor and get all David Wong’s books and listen to them. You will be highly entertained. I think David Wong might be the new Christopher Moore, which is a huge compliment!!

Revisado: 04-10-21
Great short story about strength and perseverance. I didn’t expect what happened, which is another plus! I don’t want to give it away but a definite read, especially for anyone who has been in a toxic and unhealthy relationship.

They Put Her Through the Ringer
Revisado: 09-12-20
She is extremely believable and organized. What they did to her was terrible... which is on par with their “brand.”
An extremely detailed event; glad she made it out to the other side and is doing something positive with such a negative experience.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Another Powerful Malcolm Gladwell Book
Revisado: 01-24-20
I didn’t want to stop listening. This book is riveting and timely. I love the way he had people read and how powerful was the theme song?
He is artful in his writing. Amazing how he can make facts and figures come to life. My only wish is that every American would read this and try harder with empathy. Thought-provoking, as always. Will read this again.

Interesting Premise, But...
Revisado: 03-03-18
It just wasn’t very well-written. Neat idea and story line but not believable and not well-executed. The readers were good and I kept listening even though parts of it were eye-roll inducing. I wouldn’t recommend this to people who appreciate good literature.

Unique. Unlike anything I've read... I want more.
I don't know what I expected but this went beyond expectations. I guess it's a bit Dexter-ish in that, you root for the bad guy!! But like an intellectual Dexter. Can't wait to devour more books in the series. And don't want to give away too much but GREAT READ!

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Extremely entertaining. Like, edge of your seat. Books turned into movies usually disappoint but I think it will be helpful to be able to see some of the things in the book. I'm not familiar with spaceships, per se, so it was difficult at times to visualize som of the scents. But still a wonderful experience. Highly recommended!!

I've read a lot about sociopaths after dating one, and this book does a great job explaining the stages you go through after learning about them. I liked the author's honesty and candidness. Entertaining and educational.
