Historia
As a panicked world goes into lockdown, Lucy Barton is uprooted from her life in Manhattan and bundled away to a small town in Maine by her ex-husband and on-again, off-again friend, William. For the next several months, it’s just Lucy, William, and their complex past together in a little house nestled against the moody, swirling sea. Rich with empathy and emotion, Lucy by the Sea vividly captures the fear and struggles that come with isolation, as well as the hope, peace, and possibilities that those long, quiet days can inspire.

Loved it!
Revisado: 04-20-23
I didn’t want this book to end - I’d love a sequel! She captured pandemic life perfectly. As a mom of grown daughters, I wanted the Lucy character to be real so we could be friends.

Historia
Claudia is used to disregarding her fractious family’s model-minority expectations: she has no interest in finding either a conventional career or a nice Chinese boy. She’s also used to keeping secrets from them, such as that she prefers girls—and that she's just been stealth-recruited by Veracity, a referrals-only online-dating detective agency.

Started out good, but…
Revisado: 03-28-23
Well written book with a delightful protagonist and excellent narrator. So why only 4 stars? I found the final third or so of the story to be disappointing and almost boring. Maybe I’m not as interested in AI as I should be?

So disappointed!
Revisado: 06-17-22
I love Dolly Parton and was so excited about this book, but what a let down! The story is dull and the narrator robotic. Plot summary: gal with big dreams goes to Nashville, she’s gorgeous and talented, meets a hot guy, and gets taken under the wing of country music biggest star. Two goons drag her out of the shower, beat her up, and do God knows w
hat else but she makes an instant recovery. They have something to do with her past? I endured listening until chapter 55, before giving up.

Historia
Refusing to believe that she would be abandoned as a young child, Jenna searches for her mother regularly online and pores over the pages of Alice's old journals. A scientist who studied grief among elephants, Alice wrote mostly of her research among the animals she loved, yet Jenna hopes the entries will provide a clue to her mother’s whereabouts. Desperate to find the truth, Jenna enlists two unlikely allies in her quest.

So disappointed!
Revisado: 05-27-20
I had high hopes because I loved my first Jodi Picoult audiobook (Small Great Things) and I love elephants. Sadly, this story wasn't nearly as engaging. As other reviewers have mentioned, the main Alice character's narration is dull and robotic, droning slowly on and on. She sounds bored and eventually, I was too. I stuck it out to the end because I was interested in other aspects of the story and the other narrators did a good job, but the ending had a ridiculous twist that made me angry to have wasted my time on this book.

Historia
Christie Watson spent 20 years as a nurse, and in this intimate, poignant, and remarkably powerful audiobook, she opens the doors of the hospital and shares its secrets. She takes us by her side down hospital corridors to visit the wards and meet her unforgettable patients. In the neonatal unit, premature babies fight for their lives, hovering at the very edge of survival, like tiny Emmanuel, wrapped up in a sandwich bag. On the cancer wards, the nurses administer chemotherapy and, long after the medicine stops working, something more important.

Nurses Love
Revisado: 09-07-18
thanks to Christie Watson for sharing her stories. The depth and diversity of nurses' work is not to be underestimated, and the importance of the work they do--helping us when we're vulnerable--is well-described here. A very worthwhile read.

Historia
At the beginning of her career, Sarah "Salt" Alt was a beat cop in Atlanta's poorest, most violent housing project, The Homes. It is here that she meets the cast of misfits and criminals that will have a profound impact on her later cases: Man Man, the leader of the local gang on his way to better places; street dealer Lil D and his family; and Sister Connelly, old and observant, the matriarch of the neighborhood. A lone patrolwoman, Salt's closest lifeline is her friend and colleague Pepper, on his own beat nearby.

Historia
The final novel from a great American storyteller. Donal Cameron is being raised by his grandmother, the cook at the legendary Double W ranch in Ivan Doig's beloved Two Medicine Country of the Montana Rockies, a landscape that gives full rein to an 11-year-old's imagination. But when Gram has to have surgery for "female trouble" in the summer of 1951, all she can think to do is to ship Donal off to her sister in faraway Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
