Awaken the Three is a captivating continuation of the beloved Highglade series, immersing readers once again in a rich tapestry of classic fantasy. With its multiple perspectives, this installment expertly weaves together diverse storylines, characters, and settings, allowing us to fully explore the expansive world Jennings has meticulously crafted.

One of the standout features of this book is the notable improvement in character dialogue. The interactions feel more vibrant and authentic, fostering a deeper emotional connection to the characters compared to the first book. Each point of view is distinctly drawn, enhancing the character-driven narrative that I find so engaging.

The journeys the characters embark on are both thrilling and unpredictable, filled with unexpected twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. Jennings has truly elevated the storytelling, making it a delight to follow each character’s unique path.

The plot, the characters, and the world are so well developed in this debut novel! I enjoyed all of the perspectives and nothing feels better than being immensely confused in a fantasy book but finally figuring out what is happening. I know that sounds weird but it’s the most incredible feeling.

I went into this book without knowing much because I saw the cover and immediately needed to have it. But sometimes, you can judge a book by the cover.

This standalone, debut YA fantasy with folklore, demons, witchcraft, and sentient houses was such a charming read. I deeply enjoyed the references to Polish folklore that are woven through the story. The story follows Liskia, the determined but broken female main character, who is set on ridding herself of her magic. She ties herself to the forest demon, the Leksy, for a year of servitude, who promises to take away her magic.. Over the course of the year, Liskia and the Leksy grow close as Liskia attempts to free her magic.

The characters, especially Liska, are so easy to love and the Leksy is a really solid fantasy love interest/morally grey character. The author is able to bring to life not only the characters but the setting - specifically the house and the woods!

Here is the thing, I just had a fantastic time reading this book. It has everything you will want - the plot was developed, there was some romance, a found family, a mesmerizing setting, a determined female protagonist, and a devastating ending. Truly the ending made me sob and it felt just perfect. The “big reveal” and the last part of the book felt a little rushed but honestly, this book was excellent and I will definitely be on the look out for this author’s next book!

The hilarious, cozy, adventure fantasy books just keep coming this year but The Witchstone may be one of my favorites of the year though!

I had so much fun listening to this book ( I smiled during the entire epilogue) but the substance was not lacking at all. The narration is so so well done! The story follows Laszio, a nepo-baby demon who works for the society of curse keepers (think of Hell like a corporation) and Maggie Drakeford, a human who is next in line to be cursed by the very curse that Laszio keeps. Laszio is in some tough shit at work so he decides to “work with” Maggie and her brother, Lump, to save himself. The partnership leads to a laugh out loud, descriptive adventure that takes our characters all over the world.

Some how Neff is able to create an incredible story and world while also developing Laszio, Maggie, and Lump! Maggie’s development over the course of the story was so wonderful, and there were moments that felt so real and true. The supernatural elements and supporting characters are also so well done and add to the story in every single way. Finally, this book is ridiculously funny- not only just the dialogue but also the character description (Clarence will always be my fav)!
