What Are These Emotions?
Revisado: 04-21-25
I hate to give low ratings, so this middling review was hard for me to give, but I think it’s justified. I’m not going to remark on the plot, because I think the central themes are interesting and could have been absolutely riveting if the characters’ responses to situations and circumstances made sense to me.
I don’t usually have to try too hard to find some connection, however thin, with a character, but for the life of me, I couldn’t understand either of the MCs in this book. I get that everyone experiences things differently, but the way these two expressed their emotions never made sense to me. I understood the emotion and it felt like the right emotion, but when they acted on it, it never seemed predictable or even appropriate sometimes. Again, I really do understand that not everyone experiences emotions the same way, so maybe this one just wasn’t for me, but human behavior has been studied enough that we can predict even outlier expectations. I don’t know. Maybe I just didn’t get it.
The narrator has a gorgeous, smooth voice, but he’s quite monotone. In a book of this length, monotony is a killer. I was only able to listen in small chunks, so it took much longer to get through than most other books. For comparison’s sake, I consumed this book in 30-ish-minute increments maybe every two or three days, whereas my usual habit is to consume an audiobook from start to finish without switching books between listening sessions. I frequently listen to an eight-hour book in one sitting or over the course of two days together. I found it impossible to do so with this narrator.

Damiano’s parents have never had any faith in him, so it’s no surprise when his new boss doesn’t either. He’s determined to prove Graham Brandt wrong though, if only he could stop pushing the man’s buttons and dreaming about tearing them off. It’s frustrating being a hot-blooded young man, particularly when your sexy boss is straighter than the level he uses on job sites.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 04-16-25
I don’t generally go in for age-gap romances, but I liked the story and writing well enough that it didn’t really bother me this time around. The characters were endearing enough, although their decision-making skills were deeply annoying. That always bugs the crap out of me until I remember that failure to communicate is usually what causes drama in relationships, both on and off the page. And there was some interesting backstory that didn’t call to mind seven other books I’ve read, so I have to give the author points for originality.
I hate marking the performance down, because I have nothing but love for Tim Paige. He’s one of my most favorite readers with that smooth-as-butter voice of his. Liam DiCosimo, unfortunately, never, ever does it for me. His natural voice is okay and he puts emotion into it, so it’s not like he’s just reading the lines. It’s all of his secondary voices. Everyone but the main character gets a gravelly, growly voice that is, to my ear, like that old Styrofoam cooler rubbing against a piece of plastic molding in your car on that long road trip you took with your family back in ye olden times. It’s particularly jarring opposite Tim Paige, whose voice is so perfectly smooth. Their voices for Tim’s character were so vastly different that the cognitive dissonance was too much for me. And I hate it, because I like a lot of the books Liam reads. Alas, I’ve listened to quite a few and it seems I won’t be getting used to it.

I Will Come Back to This Book
Revisado: 04-15-25
I have a book list for things I cry to. I had to invent a second tier for this one. Don’t worry, there is an HEA, but it is hard fricking won. Read trigger warnings, ‘cos it gets pretty dark, but if you like your authors to hurt you and then make you feel better, this book is an excellent find for you.
The writing is a cut above what I’m used to in this genre. There’s a depth to the story and characters that you just don’t always get. I was living and breathing for the protagonists.
I also really loved the narration. They’re really acting out the parts, not just reading lines. They both have great range; their emotions in the dark times cut and bruise, but they also pour on the healing salve in moments of intense pleasure and joy.
This book really meets a higher standard than your average romance novel. It kind of makes me feel the way I did the first time I read Romeo and Juliet. There’s something about the purity and desperation of young love. I couldn’t put it down (so to speak) and I hope you won’t either!

Historia
A straight man walks into a gay bar searching for meaning…It sounds like the start of a lousy joke. And honestly, that’s what my life is beginning to feel like. I look back at all the hateful things I’ve said and done—so many things I can’t take back—and I’m not proud. I let my ignorance steal my relationship with my youngest brother, Magnus. He and his husband, Sem, are now happily married with kids, and all I want is to be a part of their lives. But I need help to get there.

Narrator Not My Jam
Revisado: 03-03-25
If you’re not bothered by unconventional narration, I would recommend this book. I, unfortunately, am bothered by it.
Anyway, the characters are really sweet and the plot is, at the very least, off the beaten path of the usual tropes. It required some forced suspension of disbelief for me to get on board, but it was a fun story in the end. I thought the plot was far fetched, but what romance novel doesn’t suffer the same?
I guess the TLDR is that even though I find the narrator really trying (just to my ears; I’m sure the narrator is someone’s jam), I will probably listen to the next book, because I liked the pair that was teased as the next couple enough to want to find out how things go for them.

Historia
Milo. Unusual. Quirky. Different. I’ve heard it all. I’ve accepted I’m not for everyone. When I find out I inherited a bookstore and apartment on a small East Coast island, I jump at the chance for a new life. Turns out I’ve also inherited a sexy, tattooed guy who not only rents the space next to my store but my apartment too. Gideon. I wasn’t looking for a roommate, but it’s not like I can stay at Milo’s place while he’s banished to a hotel. According to Milo, we’re bestie goals. And if he doesn’t wear pants at home, who am I to complain?

My Unpopular Opinion
Revisado: 03-02-25
I'll start with my favorite part. The narrator, Iggy Toma, did not disappoint.
Before I whine about the book, I want to explain that I am generally a fan of Riley Hart's writing; this one was just a miss for me.
I appreciated this book for the fact that one of the main characters was quite outside the usual mold. Now, this could be my lack of experience speaking, but I wasn't a fan of the too frequent reminders of the character's neurodivergence. I would have much preferred some initial explanation, maybe a few reminders along the way, and then letting the character's behavior speak for itself. Maybe the author meant to reflect that living with autism actually necessitates explaining oneself endlessly, which I don't have a hard time believing. I don't know what to make of it, but I found it really annoying by the end.
I'm also a little bit over every partner of every anxious person having a PhD-level response to every expression of emotion by the anxious party. It just doesn't work that way. The people I know who don't deal with anxiety or depression are usually unable to empathize or appreciate the anxious perspective. It's just so far outside their realm of experience that they can't connect with it. That doesn't mean they will always be incapable of caring for a person in crisis, but for most people, it takes time and experience to understand how they can help in these situations - and no one gets it right every time. These relationships are just starting to feel inauthentic to me.
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer =/

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wisecracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were 18? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Gorgeous Story
Revisado: 09-18-24
I really love this book. Even though I don’t sports and our protagonists maybe aren’t traditionally romantic, their love feels so genuine. Their conversation feels a lot more real than it sometimes is in these books. The writing is full of raw emotion sometimes and at other times, I can’t stop laughing. The love scenes are sometimes funny and always intense. Also, while I love both voice actors, Wes’s is one of my all time favorites. They’re both very expressive and they feel committed to their roles. This was one of my first M/M audiobooks and I still come back for a listen every once in a while =) I hope you like it, too!

This Book Is Something Special
Revisado: 09-12-24
Are you ready for an emotional journey, crazy good storytelling, and a rich cast of fully realized characters, all brought to you by the most talented voice actor I’ve listened to so far? If so, this is the one.
I’m not going to spoil a single thing, ‘cos this book is a journey and I want you to experience it all with fresh ears. I’ll just say that even though it’s a long listen, I was still devastated when the time ran out - and even more so when I found out dear writer only has this one work so far! I hope you love it as much as I do and write your own review so we can encourage her next work.
I can’t imagine this book could disappoint!

At 12, he was my best friend. At 16, he became my crush. And now, at 34, he’s the man I’m still pining after. Falling in love with Easton was never part of the plan. But now that I’ve done it, I can’t seem to stop. It doesn’t help that we’re living under the same roof. Or that Easton is so dang sweet I want to lick him from head to toe.

Prepare for Waterworks - Not A Casual Read
Revisado: 09-08-24
I had no idea going into it how attached I was about to become to this story, these characters, the voice, and the author. I listen to a LOT of these books and I find it a real challenge to find any with a really worthwhile plot. The plot is usually just the paragraphs between the smut. This book was light on the smut, but if you’re looking for an emotional read, something you can really get invested in, make this one it! I’ll warn you this book is chock full of heartbreak, but if you steel yourself, there is an HEA that makes it so completely worthwhile.
I also want to make a note about the reader. I was worried about the setting being Texas. I’ve listened to a few books read with southern accents that my northern ears aren’t used to and it can be a challenge. Firstly, the Texas accent is really different from other southern accents. I wondered if he would make that distinction and boy howdy, he nailed it! He also used such a subtle amount of accent that it just came off warm and charming to me. So I guess I’m saying it’s good for all ears? Or most? Anyway, he’s a super talented voice artist and I will be looking for his other reads now.
I hope you give this one a listen and enjoy!

It's fair to say my best friend Mat and I are looking for trouble when we head out for a wild night on the town, and boy, do we find it. We find it in the form of Trouble, a guy with long, silky black hair, doe eyes, and thick, fleshy lips. Sweat glitters down his spine, and he moves like there's music in his soul. Every eye in the place is on him. He's magnetic. The second we see him, we want him. We both do. Suddenly, the fact we thought we were straight doesn't seem all that important. Trouble turns our lives upside down.

A Cut Above the Rest
Revisado: 08-04-24
Okay, look, I consume a LOT of these books. I can count on one hand the number of authors I would bother recommending. Jesse Reign has my whole heart after this book.
It was a slice of a life I’ve never really thought about before, but I could relate to more of it than I thought I would going into it.
And the voice artists for this book SERVED. All three are super talented. I especially loved the dialog, ‘cos they don’t just read, but actually act, like with feelings or whatever. If I could give it 10 stars in every category, this book would have earned every one of them!
I hope you enjoy!

Actual Plot - Not Just Smut
Revisado: 06-11-24
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a place and time for smut, but I’ve found most M/M audiobooks to be quite light on story. I was very excited to find this series!
I also LOVE the voice actor. I just got done listening to another one who I could just barely tolerate listening to and I it made me appreciate this one more. The differentiation in the voices is kind of wild considering he voices everyone.
If you’re looking for something with a little more going on than bedroom scenes, I would recommend this book. I can’t say it was my favorite plot of all time. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just say there’s one particular trope toward the end that I just personally don’t like at all, so that bummed me out. It was definitely written well, it’s just a plot line I don’t love. That being said, the writing was still funny and endearing. I also really enjoy the protagonists’ love story.
