Historia
The skies darkened and the temperatures dropped. Intense firestorms spread across the Earth at each point where the bombs detonated. Fallen trees and homes had become the perfect kindling. Oil and natural gas reserves together with coal seams and peat bogs smoldered for many months. From the initial firestorm and the spread of smoke to the destruction of the Earth's ecosystem, all living things were beginning to perish.

Not up to Akart’s Usual Standard
Revisado: 02-13-25
A few main complaints with this series. The characters seemed to act more like Keystone Cops than professional lobstermen and Coastie. Daniel repeatedly reacted to situations like an untrained deck hand than an O5 in the Coast Guard. The scene in Ops when the SecDef kicked everyone out and somehow managed to self-launch his flight of drones, apparently without the aid of ground crew is impossible. There were multiple other inconsistencies and improbable outcomes across the series.
Lastly, I feel cheated by the paying full premium price for each of the five 1/2-sized books. $13+ for ~5 hour substandard books isn’t sitting well with me.

Historia
Sea Isle was supposed to be the fresh start Dr. Emilia McRoy dreamed of. Far from the busy emergency room across the Atlantic in Seattle, she hoped to settle down and begin this new chapter as a small-town doctor to the quirky residents who immediately welcomed her. When she stumbles across a dead body, she starts to think that she may not be as Scot free of the drama and intrigue as she initially thought.

Kept Me Guessing!
Revisado: 01-20-24
The story is fun, the romantic notion of leaving the big city in the US to work in a quaint Scottish village is attractive, and the mystery of the killer’s identity kept me guessing up to the end. The talented voice actor is wonderful and made me forget the various characters were actually one woman! Very enjoyable and well worth a listen.

Good Story Muddied by PC
Revisado: 10-30-22
The plot is excellent sci-fi drama, not overly complex, and JD Jackson is the perfect choice of voice actor. I would have given 5-stars if it weren’t for the over-use of gender pronoun nonsense, that actually seemed forced. The blatant nod to that ridiculousness was an unnecessary distraction, and used to the point of irritation. Hopefully, the remaining books of the series will feature much less of this junk.

The Story Details Don’t Fit the Setting
Revisado: 10-10-22
This entire series could have been so much better had the author bothered to align the storyline with mainstream sociopolitical ideology of 1870 England. Throughout this series, the author presents the “PC” dogma of today as if it were common opinions of the 1870s. Additionally, the routine use of modern terminology (such as STDs instead of VD), and slang (such as the derogatory word “broad” that originated in the US around 1912). Even more troubling was the historical inaccuracy of presenting English society-at-large as having been pro-Union (US) abolitionists during the US Civil War. England sent numerous military advisers, observers and support to the Confederacy. The lack of attention to details is annoying and distracting. If the author wanted to write a novel of characters portraying political ideologies of today, she would have done better setting the timeframe to somewhere around 1995-2020.

Historia
March 1920: Life has turned unsettlingly quiet for former British Intelligence agent Verity Kent and her husband, Sidney. But even that false calm is about to end. As threats remain, the French authorities soon request Sidney's help with a suspect who claims to have proof of treason—shortly before she is assassinated. The murder of a Belgian lawyer aboard a train seems at first to be a simple case of revenge. But the victim was connected to British Intelligence, and possessed papers detailing the sinking of a gold-laden German ship during the war.

Quite the Letdown
Revisado: 09-02-22
I’ve enjoyed this series up to this book. The story drug and required an effort to maintain the focus required to follow the plot. Sidney’s character seemed shallow and petty one moment and brimming with lust or compassion the next. Maybe he needs a Prozac? I know that I do after this book.

Historia
Doctor Robert Branch was a university professor, not a secret agent. But his best friend was dead and Branch knew that it couldn't have been suicide. He was also certain that the murder had been arranged by a Nazi espionage group operating on campus. The only trouble was, no one would believe him. Branch knew that the Nazis would have him eliminated as soon as it was convenient.

Authentic, rough, heartwarmingly politically incorrect (by today’s standards), witty, humorous, tragic, and well worth reading. I’d liken it to Jack Webb with a postgraduate degree.

Sympathetic Dramatization
Revisado: 07-03-22
More or less historically accurate, with a few minor exceptions (such as Cummings, the unit’s surveyor, was 27 at the Alamo, not 16.) As portrayed in this telling, much of what we know of the battle was revealed through correspondence sent out from the Alamo. Well done, IMHO.
