Good stories, sound quality not great

The sound quality on the recording left some things to be desired. There is a fair bit of whistling on sibilents and some pops on promises, so if those bother you you might want to skip it.
If not, Lagan has a very interesting touch with metafictional elements, and over all I very much enjoyed this collection and will seek out more.

Very judgmental for a historian

The author seems to abhor Rome, so I wonder why she wrote this book. She is very eager to judge the behavior of people who lived 2000 years ago by modern conventional Western mores. But an entertaining book, and very well performed.

No resolutions. Just introduction of new problems. My least favorite of the series so far. Marsden's performance is still excellent. although he changed the way he performs several characters.

Hard to Enjoy

I feel that I can't give a full assessment of tge book until I've finished the series. I hope that this will be similar to the author's Mordant's Need books.
The main character is an angry, stubborn man of privilege and at the end he only feels his anger is justified. I found it very difficult to enjoy his story and lack of any real growth.
