Historia
The year is 1739. Eliza Lucas is sixteen years old when her father leaves her in charge of their family’s three plantations in rural South Carolina and then proceeds to bleed the estates dry in pursuit of his military ambitions. Tensions with the British, and with the Spanish in Florida, just a short way down the coast, are rising, and slaves are starting to become restless. Her mother wants nothing more than for their South Carolina endeavor to fail so they can go back to England. Soon her family is in danger of losing everything.

Historical but based in fact.
Revisado: 09-16-24
A beautifully wove tale about a 16 year old girl who runs her father's plantation and experiments with raising indigo to help keep the plantation afloat. Based on the work of an actual girl in the 1700's who did it. The author embellishes a bit, but it's a great read about history, life, passion and love. Highly recommended.

This was an incredibly amazing book.
Revisado: 09-16-24
I highly recommend this book. Think the exact opposite of Cormick McCarthy whose books focus on all that is devilish and evil in human natutre. Then think about the possibility that someone wrote the opposite; about what is good strong and heavenly about human nature. This is the book and this is the author. Wendell Berry's writing is like poetry. One of the best writers and the best reader I've heard in a long, long time. I wonder if this book would have been as powerful to me without this exceptional reader. I don't think it would have been. You will think differently after reading this book.

Historia
Hard times come for all in life, with no real explanation. When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy, or to be the gateway to gratitude and joy. Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waoroni people in Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the gospel. Her second husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned the deepest lessons about God.

He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

This series of articles is HORRIBLE.
Revisado: 06-05-20
Audible, please LISTEN to this recording. This is absolutely the worst "book" I have listened to on Audible.
I cannot believe Audible would sell this "book". It sounds like it was recorded by a robot - I'm not joking nor exaggerating - and the content was adapted terribly from another language. I run an ad agency and thought I could learn something new from this book, so I understand Google AdWords. There is NOTHING in here about YouTube and certainly no strategy.
There is no order to the content. It seems to be a series of blogs or articles. Sections repeat throughout the book. For instance it repeatedly tells you what SEO stands for and what it does.
I believe all of the reviews are faked. No one in their right mind would give this book a five star rating. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS RECORDING.

Interesting.
Revisado: 05-04-20
I've always admired Steve Jobs, but after reading this story, I don't admire him nearly as much. While this was a well written story about his life - and very honest - I could not help but dislike the narrator, Dylan Baker. It seemed as though Mr. Baker did not like Steve Jobs and frequently quoted Jobs in a whiny voice that took away from the book itself.

Soon into the trip, the one-legged Captain Ahab announces that the whaling adventure is really a hunt for one very specific large, white sperm whale.

I've wanted to read this book for decades and am SO glad I LISTENED to it! I would have missed Melville's alliteration, and the magic of his writing that can only be revealed by listening to it. The reader, Philippe Duquenoy was fabulous. He read at a fast pace and was so engaging. What an experience. I highly recommend this version read by this reader.
