Historia
Stories of "The American West" often rely on tired tropes of tough cowboys, but real history is much less straight and narrow and way more interesting. Join host Niecy Nash-Betts for a wild round-up of LGBTQ+ lives that got buried in the dust of popular culture and history, and a look at how queer people continue to shape the West today–from gay rodeo to two-spirit identity to trans truckers.

To see oneself in a story of the renegade hero is priceless.
Revisado: 08-10-24
I have been the truck driving queer and thought that perhaps that was a problem. I got a more “respectable life” and the core of me is missing. If I had known there were queers out there…life would have gone differently. Thank you for letting me see myself in this story and not as part of the problem.

Historia
When Kate wins an item at her children’s elementary school auction - an all-inclusive trip to SeaView at Sandpiper Bay - she thinks it’s just what her family needs after a decade of career disappointments and a marriage on its last legs. She has no reason to believe that said trip is a Fyre Festival-level fraud and, in fact, the catalyst to her unraveling. But it is. Oh, but it is.

Great performance, failed book
Revisado: 09-13-23
Christina Applegate was the only redeemer here. A great performance that made the story tolerable enough to get to the end.
That it pained me to listen to this in hopes that it would get better without a win is entirely my fault. I say Christina Applegate on this and glossed over the authors name.
While I loved all the swearing, this story bothered me from beginning to end and there was no putting a name to it until the the credits started to roll. The mistake I had made hit me like a ton of bricks. The character was a man’s idea of what a woman would do, feel, say.
To the author, please stay out of that kitchen. It’s not a good look for you, brother. They say you should write what you know and you should have listened. Your character takes male liberties and that’s simply not a real thing. The entire story is about a woman who allows herself to act as petulant as a man child.
Where there were glimmers of hope that this character would comport themselves as a female would, it disappoints presenting cringy politics, whining, and gross ideas that woman are simply not allowed to have. Please write about what you know.
I agree, Peter needs to grow a pair. The social media family is all too real and that a sad truth about our society. The husband and wife need to learn to communicate.
In the last 2 minutes Peter finally steps up as much as the main character. For that you get a single star. The end is abrupt and unsatisfying.
5 stars to the performance. Thank you Christina Applegate. Bravo!

Can’t get enough
Revisado: 05-23-23
Every time I think I’m done hearing this it calls my name. It’s just full of everything on every level. Have to have it for short car rides, background noise, to fall asleep to, to lift my spirits, to regroup, calm down, and so much more. So good! It gets me there.

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

What a wonderful way to say so many things that need to be said these days!
Revisado: 03-21-23
I am in love. This one will be one of those books that I will gift to everyone this year. It came as a surprise when an old female friend suggested this to me. The one thing we both adore above all things is saying girl power without those to words. This book does it. What someone sees as a hyper kid may be the kid that will change the world. The thing that you hate may be the thing that defines things about you that couldn’t have ever imagined. I closed this book with misty eyes and know there will be many happy returns to this story.

From inside the female
Revisado: 02-07-23
For the first time ever I am proud to be an old born female. For the first time ever I have an idea of what ok at my age. Bravo to these women for looking at what everyone thinks is used up as just getting started.
I’m saddened about the women who can’t get this because the older women “haven’t had this struggle” to their mind. Sometimes the misogyny comes from within the female.

Best fluff ever!
Revisado: 10-11-22
If you’re looking for a documentary level intelectual engagement, walk away now. This is for people in search of something light and low impact. Nothing is sacred and it’s wonderful for some ridiculousness that requires no thinking. Fun, fun, FUN!
Good for people who don’t need to be reminded what fun is. For those with a tight thinking budget, not much.sorry to all the people who will offended about the comments on race. Just so you know, we have been thinking it, this girl just had the lady parts to say it and it’s about time someone did.

Historia
It’s the summer of 2007, and Mookie Hooper returns to Camp Cartwright with a huge secret: This is going to be her final summer at camp. So this has to be her best summer yet! Without anything to investigate, this is finally Mookie’s time to be a camper. She’s going to spend time with her buddy Carter Ruben-Rubens, finally make it into the inside of an inside joke with Fanny and her bunk, and possibly attempt a contact sport. The only thing that would put the summer over the top? Getting her first kiss. But that seems fairly unlikely since Squirrel Girl isn’t exactly anyone’s first crush.

Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.
