Historia
In spite of being ejected from Miss Bodycote's Female Academy in Canada, 12-year-old Flavia de Luce is excited to be sailing home to England. But instead of a joyous homecoming, she is greeted on the docks with unfortunate news: Her father has fallen ill, and a hospital visit will have to wait while he rests. But with Flavia's blasted sisters and insufferable cousin underfoot, Buckshaw now seems both too empty - and not empty enough.

I LOVE this series.

What about Jayne Entwistle’s performance did you like?
Jayne Entwistle has become the voice of Flavia deLuce for me. Don't think that she is replaceable. She is not!
Any additional comments?
If you are new to this series - go back to The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and start the series with its unexpected choice for a lead character. If you are a fan and follower of the series, you will not be disappointed or bored with Thrice the Brindled Cat has Mew'd, book #8. We should be. It's the eighth book with the voice of a 12 year old from a dysfunctional family who scientifically analyzes and solves murders before any adult. Ridiculous, and yet. . . I LOVE this series. I wait for each book's release and savor it from start to finish. Alan Bradley awards us the privilege to again accompany Flavia de Luce a bit further along life's path. For me, resolving how and why the victim was murdered is interesting but plays second to the storyline of Flavia's family in this book. Well worth the credit!

Historia
It’s 2011, and Samuel Andresen-Anderson—college professor, stalled writer—has a Nix of his own: his mother, Faye. He hasn’t seen her in decades, not since she abandoned the family when he was a boy. Now she’s re-appeared, having committed an absurd crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the internet, and inflames a politically divided country. The media paints Faye as a radical hippie with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother was an ordinary girl who married her high-school sweetheart.

I tried to like this book
Revisado: 11-11-16
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I pushed on through Chapter 19 and then I had to give up. The reader was good. The writing did thoroughly unfold this book in my mind and Samuel's friendship with Bishop and Bethany made me like Samuel's character a bit more but by the end of Chapter 19, I just didn't care about him or his mother. I wasn't enjoying the book or interested in its progression. It became a chore to listen. I have to return it. So disappointed after purchasing because of the reviews.

Historia
War hero Alistair Carsington really really loves women, and his romantic impulses have landed him in nearly as much danger as the Battle of Waterloo. To avoid his usual temptations and perhaps even repay the friend who saved his life, he's exiled himself to a place far from civilization - Derbyshire - in winter! Fate laughs at his good intentions and drives him straight into conflict with Miss Mirabel Oldridge, his match in tenacity, intelligence, and deviousness - who also happens to be wildly irresistible.

Could not finish it.
Revisado: 05-30-15
I tried. I stuck with it for several hours as I listen as I drive and it isn't convenient to switch books. Many times I shut it off and tried to give it another chance later but now I quit and have returned it. This is the basic BORING formula plot and writing. I admit I don't read this genre often, and purchased it spontaneously from the reviews, but honestly I felt like I had read this before. It was so predictable, the writing, tedious mechanical drivel.
