A classic!

Strangely modern- a deep fantasy that simultaneously satires classical fantasy tropes. Incredible dialogue- imagery is textured and nuanced. Don’t pass it up

Revisado: 07-27-23
As Usual, Ehrman offers exceptional scholarship on historical Christianity and Early Christian ideas. This book is clearly more oriented to general readership, but it still thoroughly investigates these three early apostles. With thought provoking scholarly inquiry with many references to historical documents and scripture

Historia
Sweating may be one of our weirdest biological functions, but it’s also one of our most vital and least understood. In The Joy of Sweat, Sarah Everts delves into its role in the body - and in human history. Everts’ entertaining investigation takes listeners around the world - from Moscow, where she participates in a dating event in which people sniff sweat in search of love, to New Jersey, where companies hire trained armpit sniffers to assess the efficacy of their anti-sweat products. Along the way, Everts traces humanity’s long quest to control sweat.

Interesting and virtually singular review on the subject of perspiration, but lacking
Revisado: 01-06-22
The author should be commended for undertaking the singular work on the subject of perspiration. However, she makes some broad sweeping generalizations on subjects of health and biology. Oftentimes resorting to storytelling tropes then broad-minded understanding of the human evolutionary biology.
She also makes some reductive observations on medical history such as classical views of Galen as “wrong.”
Interesting way to tackle a subject

Completely logical ,ignore reviews claiming bias
Revisado: 09-13-21
This is an extremely useful and organized perspective of fallacious logic. It’s humorously written, modern, and approachable. Ignore previous reviews that clam this as “bias” these are clearly right-wing Enthusists who have trouble hearing examples that include people like President Obama or examples that question theories such as “flat earth.” The irony is that many of these examples that the author uses are exactly the reason logic was invented in the classical era. If you can’t hear or accept logic because it has references that you don’t feel good about, this is a primary fallacy. Appeal to Anger and even Ad Hominem: Guilt by Association.

Revisado: 09-15-20
I can’t say I “enjoyed” this book per se. Because the content is troubling, eye-opening, and fairly heart wrenching. It helped me understand some part of a very misunderstood/underreported eating disorders, often shrouded in shame.
Burton was able to explain her journey with a sane, introspective honesty that simultaneously tugs at one’s guts and illuminates. Her perspective on family, community, and personal contributions is eye-opening

Historia
In this landmark book of popular science, Daniel E. Lieberman - chair of the department of human evolutionary biology at Harvard University and a leader in the field - gives us a lucid and engaging account of how the human body evolved over millions of years, even as it shows how the increasing disparity between the jumble of adaptations in our Stone Age bodies and advancements in the modern world is occasioning this paradox: greater longevity but increased chronic disease.

Superb study of human biology and it’s modern applications
Revisado: 09-15-20
So many books chart human evolution and it’s mostly a list of developmental traits with theories. Pretty stagnant
Lieberman takes a totally different approach. He looks at human development as a scrying tool for our future. Covering essential evolutionary facts that directly relate to the human condition today. Our minds, our diets, our overall “health”. health is one of those concepts that means little to nothing unless put into the context of our history and biological destiny. This book strongly defines health

It shows the many problems with using exercise like movement vitamins instead of addressing the deeper issue of a poor movement diet.

Incredible information, delivery grating
Revisado: 03-05-20
I’ll start by saying that I love Katy Bowman. I love her material and her thinking around human movement and development.
The delivery of this material is super dense, and sometimes difficult to follow. I’m quite adept at human biology, but the performance of this book is quite relentless. It’s like they didn’t allow her to take a breath between between sentences. I find that i need to rewind again and again to clarify key points. This could probably be addressed with voice acting and basic storytelling skills- rather then the author narrating

Frodo and Sam must continue alone towards Mount Doom, where the One Ring must be destroyed. Meanwhile, at Helm’s Deep and Isengard, the first great battles of the War of the Ring take shape. In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien’s great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe - hobbits, elves, and wizards - spring to life.
