Historia
Hailed as one of the Great American Novels, The Great Gatsby delves into the dark corners of the Jazz Age to tell a tragic tale of obsession, love, and the gritty underbelly of the American dream. Through the eyes of unassuming narrator Nick Carraway, the story follows the enigmatic Jay Gatsby as he chases the object of his hopeless desire, the beautiful Daisy Buchanan.

The story of one man and an entire nation at the same time. Beautiful and insightful. The reader was serviceable but by no means extraordinary.

Best Clancy novel I've read yet
Revisado: 06-17-22
This story is awesome. The characters are nuanced, even the bad guys. The action is well paced. And the conclusion is both heart wrenching and satisfying! This just made it into my top 10.
Pritchard does a good job. He's no Scott Brick, but he certainly doesn't deserve the really nasty reviews found here. Please don't let those reviews keep you from enjoying this story.

good story, amazing performance
Revisado: 06-01-21
A great story by Kipling, slow in parts, but breathtaking I'm its scope. It gives a fascinating glimpse of the late British empire in the far east.
The reader is amazing. His ability to different British and Indian accents is truly impressive and add a lot of character to the performance.

A must read for all sinners and sufferers
Revisado: 04-21-21
This is one of the best books I've ever read. Certainly the most helpful book on the Christian faith since Mere Christianity. Dane Ortlund is a great writer, although his narration style isn't terribly exciting. However, his content is so good that I got over his delivery after the first chapter.

Historia
Beautiful, popular, and fortunate, Anna Karenina is an upright wife and mother. But her passionless marriage to a senior statesman leads her into the arms of Count Alexey Vronsky. The dashing cavalry officer stokes in her something exciting and defiant. In abandoning the rules of her noble station, she's aware of the risks: a degraded reputation and the hostile recriminations of St. Petersburg society. But there are even greater stakes as Anna follows desires both romantic and carnal, emancipating and destructive.

Well worth the investment!
Revisado: 08-06-20
I've wanted to venture into Tolstoy's novels for a long time, but I'd been scared off by all the "War and Peace" jokes.
Anna Karenina is the one to start with, an audio version makes it much more attainable, and this performance by Elizabeth Knowelden is superb!

Historia
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."

profound book, scintillating performance
Revisado: 04-22-20
This is hands down the most compelling literary discovery I've made in a long time. Hauntingly beautiful writing and uncanny cultural foresight. It is both better writing and more accurate prediction than Orwell's 1984. A must read for anyone with a taste for poetic prose, and a that nasty penchant for "conspiracy theories."
Also, Robbins' performance is pitch perfect in a wasteland of tone deaf narrators.
