Historia
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

TANSTAAFL...& It's Worth It
Revisado: 10-14-18
This Heinlein classic is wonderfully performed by Lloyd James, with good voice variances, yet not overacted. Mike is perfectly characterized and so is Manny. Listening to this makes me long to see this action- and emotion-filled saga brought to life as a tv series, with production values a la Games of Thrones or Outlander.
My criteria for a rating of 5 🌟 is re-readability - or re-listenability in this case. The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress audio book definitely deserves its 5 🌟. As well as I know this time-honored tale, I still find myself staying up until the wee hours to hear the finish on each return visit.
Highly recommended.

The Witching Hour

Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

50 hours well worth it
Revisado: 09-17-18
I hesistated with this purchase, torn between the unabridged version read by Kate Reading, and the trilogy production where 3 books are crowded into a mere 10 hours but with one of the voice actors being the inimitable Tim Curry. However, this book is so full of intricate story and such vivid description, I could not imagine skipping a word of it. I am quite glad I followed that instinct. Kate Reading does an amazing job, rising to the challenges of so many voices and so many hours that were required to bring this Anne Rice classic to life.
If you want to spend 50 hours submerged in Rice's fantastic world, this is definitely well worth the time investment. I'll be taking a break between this volume and "Lasher" - the next book in the series - but not a long one. This trilogy has always been a favourite, beloved even over Rice's Vampire Chronicles.
I reserve 5 🌟 ratings for books I plan to read/listen to again. This one, extensive as it is, fulfills that criteria. Highly recommended.

Delightful Swan Song
Revisado: 06-17-18
Bernadette Dunne's sultry contralto brings the last of Heinlein's Lazarus Long series to life. While she voiced a fine Hilda in "Number of the Beast," Dunne completely inhabits Maureen and is quite at home with both her noble sentiment and her bawdy sense of humour. A few quite minor errors are easily passed over by anyone who has not memorized the book (as I have!) Though I find audio books a bit pricey, this one was well worth the purchase.
