Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim—the Thursday Murder Club—are still riding high off their recent real-life murder case and are looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet at Cooper’s Chase, their posh retirement village. But they are out of luck. An unexpected visitor—an old pal of Elizabeth’s (or perhaps more than just a pal?)—arrives, desperate for her help. He has been accused of stealing diamonds worth millions from the wrong men and he’s seriously on the lam.

I Laughed, I Cried and Laughed Some More
Revisado: 05-01-25
Richard Osman is absolutely brilliant! I have not been more thoroughly happy and excited about an author and series. I put off the first book for a long time, I thought it might be cute and sweet, but I usually like mystery books that are kind of messed up. This is so much more than I ever expected it to be. Not only is the humor better than in almost any book I’ve ever read, but the mysteries are complex, and the characters are absolutely like real people in my life now. I cannot recommend this author more. It’s one of those books that makes you reevaluate all the five star reviews you’ve given in the past. Then there is the narrator. At one point in time I had to say to myself, when thinking back, are there multiple people narrating? She’s phenomenal.

Historia
A production company wants to make a movie about Isabel Fielding’s life, but Leah knows this is a huge mistake. When the actress cast to play Leah is found murdered, she’s proven right in the grisliest of ways. It seems like a straightforward case: the deadliest ever female serial killer escaped prison a few hours before the murder. But Leah’s son Tom is first on the scene and Seb, Leah’s boyfriend, isn’t convinced by Tom’s innocent act. Even Leah must admit she doesn’t really know her son after he disappeared for months without contact.

Awful
Revisado: 03-29-25
I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books, but this one was just terrible. It was almost as if someone else came in and wrote the third book. I only made it through because I have never not finished a book that I started. They should’ve wrapped it in two books, if you skip it, you’re not missing anything. Nothing even happened in the book until about three hours were remaining. What did happen was just unbelievable and silly and stupid. The constant sing song of villains voices reveling in their evil behavior is also annoying.

Boring
Revisado: 03-10-25
No spoilers. I love a slow burn. This was just boring. It was like she had enough for a really great short story. Literally nothing happened until the last four hours of this book. I mean nothing. You didn’t know her backstory. You didn’t know what was going on with Mr. Nobody, It was just freaking boring. This author isn’t for me. Someone blamed it on the narrator, she can’t rewrite the book. Narrator was great, author needs help.

Great Book
Revisado: 02-07-25
Love Paula Hawkins. Fantastic and flawed characters. A lot of people discuss the ending, no spoilers. Would I like everything wrapped in a bow while figuratively skipping into the sunset, perhaps, but that in no way made it a bad ending for me. I don’t know if the book has always been like this but there is about a 25 minute interview at the end which in my opinion was completely stupid an unnecessary. I do wonder if believing you have 40 minutes left in the book only to find that it’s almost over has lead to some of the bad feelings about an abrupt ending. Skip the interview. I’ll await her next release.

Historia
Everyone is hiding a secret. One of them is murder. The book club was her idea, of course. It was her way into our group. A chance to get close. I knew from the day she arrived that she couldn't be trusted. And I was right. Alice didn't come to the village for peace and quiet. She came for revenge. A deliciously addictive psychological thriller about a book club that unravels dark and scandalous secrets between one circle of neighbours.

Actually it’s totally plausible
Revisado: 01-05-25
No spoilers. Slightly unsatisfying ending, but I might feel differently about it later. This is a super fun read, there are even times where I felt a little spooked and that’s hard to do after reading a million books and watching a million thrillers. I really enjoyed it and ended up finishing it very fast. Don’t listen to the haters who think that everyone in a thriller should know they’re in a thriller and act accordingly. 🙄

Historia
Ten years ago, the Harper family disappeared. Their deserted cottage was left with the water running, the television playing cartoons, the oven ready for baking. The doors were locked from the inside. Overnight, the sleepy village of Nighbrook became notorious as the scene of the unsolved mystery of the decade, an epicentre for ghoulish media speculation. For crime journalist Naomi, solving the case has turned into an obsession. So now, with Ivy Cottage finally listed for sale, it’s her chance to mount an investigation like no other.

Historia
It's winter in the Catskills and Mitchell's Inn, nestled deep in the woods, is the perfect setting for a relaxing—maybe even romantic—weekend away. So when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and a blizzard cuts off the electricity—and all contact with the outside world—the guests settle in and try to make the best of it. Soon, though, one of the guests turns up dead—it looks like an accident. But when a second guest dies, they start to panic. Within the snowed-in paradise, something—or someone—is picking off the guests one by one.

Everything Was There…
Revisado: 12-10-24
But nothing grabbed me. Seemed like a writing project. No connection to the characters. She didn’t even use the great setting. Disappointment. Narrator was also terrible. She made people sound dumb. It was like she was mimicking people she didn’t like.

Great Winter Mystery
Revisado: 11-28-24
This was a great short listen. It’s my favorite setting, a bunch of people snowed in / stuck at a location. A longer book would have had more character development, but i enjoyed it for what it was.

Historia
The summer in question started out with hot, fun-filled days and new friendships. We had just turned thirteen and had our whole lives ahead of us. But that was before her. Before we became known as the Hixton Five and our lives become defined by one night. It’s hard to believe twenty years have passed since she was locked away. But now she’s free and strange things have started to happen. When I close my eyes, the creeping anxiety and fear is overwhelming and all too real. Because the monster is back, and I know she has a score to settle with us.

Good Story
Revisado: 09-21-24
Good story but annoying narration. Imogen Church has been my favorite for years but either the direction was poor or she is just starting to overdo the voice trepidation and quiver and I cant stand it. She manages to make everyone sound annoying and weak. Good not great but I’ll try this author again.
