Historia
This incisive history upends the complacency that confines anti-Judaism to the ideological extremes in the Western tradition. With deep learning and elegance, David Nirenberg shows how foundational anti-Judaism is to the history of the West. Questions of how we are Jewish and, more critically, how and why we are not have been churning within the Western imagination throughout its history. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans; Christians and Muslims of every period; even the secularists of modernity have used Judaism in constructing their visions of the world.

A masterpiece and a modern classic!
Revisado: 04-08-25
like many modern works, this masterfully written piece of intellectual history manages to discuss anti Judaism by taking us to the paces of primary sources rather than modern political discourse. students of religion, politics, philosophy, and world history will find this a delight to listen to and a source of enlightenment on how Judaism not only played a role in advancing the societies that often punished actual Jews for following it, but also served as a boogeyman for those who wanted to silence debate.
I say this as a rabbi - the work is not against Judaism at all but it is a way of tracing opposition to Judaism from both the right wing and the left wing of thinkers over the last 2,000 years.

Every contributor said the quiet part about what's lacking in Jewish leadership, out loud. The Passover campus takeovers in America after the High Holy Day Hamas attacks on Israel only make this case painfully more urgent.

Historia
Zionism and the Black Church is a discussion of Africa's ancient connection to Israel and the Jewish people, and the historic Black-Jewish synergy in America. It explains the foundation of spiritual Zionism among Black people, and why that foundation will always inform Black support for Israel. It uncovers the origins of an anti-Israel ideology that targeted the Black and African communities beginning in the 1960s, and how that strategy became a mainstay in school curriculum and political policy.

Required reading for Africana Studies
Revisado: 09-21-22
This nonfiction work is the audio equivalent of a page-turner, which is a testament to the expertise of the author who narrates it. This work should be required reading for students of Africana studies as well as Judaic studies, especially given his constant references to primary and secondary sources throughout the work. The focus of this book is neither racism nor conversion, so members of other religions and ethnicities can find this book useful in understanding a nuanced approach to Black history and Jewish-Christian relations. I say this is as rabbinical student.

An indispensable corrective to the falsified version of Black history presented by The 1619 Project, radical activists, and money-hungry “diversity consultants". Rejecting this false narrative, a collection of the most prominent and respected Black scholars and thinkers has come together to correct the record and tell the true story of Black Americans in all its complexity, diversity of experience, and poignancy. Collectively, they paint a vivid picture of Black people living the grand American experience.

The Best Combination of Black Scholarship
Revisado: 10-29-21
This work by moderate and conservative black leaders in business, policy, and philosophy is the perfect counterbalance to the reductive racialism of as Critical Race Theory activists. As noted in every chapter, the goal is to tell the full story of Black victory over slavery and segregation, rather than crafting a victimhood narrative that excuses internal faults and belittles the value of self discipline.

A Book of Blame.
Revisado: 08-23-21
As a scholar of African American history, this is a work which flattened all references to achievement and uplift, and sought to instead create a revisionist history of how little has changed in 400 years. I not only listened to every minute of this audiobook, but wrote three graduate essays on it over the last semester, so I can speak with a great deal if experience. Readers are best served by reading autobiographical materials from the interesting figures that are discussed in each chapter, than to read the highly political editorializing of the various authors who, (per the Introduction) often "creatively" write vignettes "based" on the period of history they were assigned. This means that, you are reading a work that is historical fiction, and arguably a work meant to promote Kendi and BLM's ideological framework more than understand the complex story of Blacks who pushed for equality all in the process of making the country a better place for all. If there is any way to summarize just how pessimistic this book is, consider the following: in the two chapters that cover the time period that Barack Obama was President, there's only about a paragraph worth of information about his accomplishments.

This is a very thorough, balanced approach to understanding the implications of genetic information on the design and origin of life on Earth. The author not only explains the concepts thoroughly and both laymen's as well as biological terms, but he also is honest enough to review the work of his critics and allow the reader to draw conclusions.

Historia
Crowdsourcing is a term that was coined in 2006 to describe how the commercial sector was beginning to outsource problems or tasks to the public through an open call for solutions over the internet or social media. Crowdsourcing works to generate new ideas or develop innovative solutions to problems by drawing on the wisdom of the many rather than the few.

Historia
Why is it that so many efforts by liberals to lift the Black underclass not only fail, but often harm the intended beneficiaries? In Please Stop Helping Us, Jason L. Riley examines how well-intentioned welfare programs are in fact holding Black Americans back. Minimum-wage laws may lift earnings for people who are already employed, but they price a disproportionate number of Blacks out of the labor force. Affirmative action in higher education is intended to address past discrimination, but the result is fewer Black college graduates than would otherwise exist.
