Historia
Like every other grad student at Miskatonic University, Owen Merrill knows about the Great Old Ones, the nightmare beings out of ancient legend that H.P. Lovecraft unearthed from archaic texts and turned into icons of modern fantasy fiction. Then a chance discovery - a lost letter written by Lovecraft to fellow Weird Tales author Robert Blake - offers a glimpse into the frightful reality behind the legends, and sends Owen on a desperate quest for answers that shatters his familiar world forever.

great pacing. great singing. It is as if grandpa Tolkien himself was reading to us. Hearing the poems and songs is so much better than my short attention trying to read them.

Historia
In the spring of 1978, a young Haruki Murakami sat down at his kitchen table and began to write. The result: two remarkable short novels—Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball, 1973—that launched the career of one of the most acclaimed authors of our time. These powerful, at times surreal, works about two young men coming of age—the unnamed narrator and his friend the Rat—are stories of loneliness, obsession, and eroticism. They bear all the hallmarks of Murakami’s later books, and form the first two-thirds, with A Wild Sheep Chase, of the trilogy of the Rat.

Good if you're looking for a Murikami fix
Revisado: 01-22-18
Was Wind/Pinball worth the listening time?
The was definitely worth a listen, but only if you are already a Murakami fan. It was fun and weird, but would ultimately be unsatisfying by itself. I listened to the other books in the "series" first, it would be fun to listen to them again now with a little more of the Rat's back story.

Revisado: 05-12-14
Where does The Restaurant at the End of the Universe rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Oh, questions? Ranks are hard, I would rank this similarly to perfectly toasted artisan bread with salted butter vs. your run of the mill toast. It might not be the best or fanciest food you ever had, but it'll make you happier than just about anything.
What other book might you compare The Restaurant at the End of the Universe to and why?
I'm not really sure. It shouldn't be lumped in with most sci-fi. This is snarky social commentary.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
There's some suspense here, but only a few moments of edge your seat suspense.

Historia
Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

This series just keeps bringing the good stuff
Revisado: 04-06-13
What made the experience of listening to A Feast for Crows the most enjoyable?
Dotrice is spot on narrating these novels. Just enough variation between characters so you can keep things straight, but he doesn't over do it.
And the story is wonderful; endearing characters, evil characters, bumbling fools and manipulative geniuses. R.R. Martin keeps you on your toes right on through to the end; I just hope he doesn't keep us all waiting too long for the rest of the story!

Heart wrenching
Revisado: 07-08-12
Some people dismiss fantasy as escapism, as not being serious. Well, folks, this story is serious. Your emotions will be dragged up and down, you'll think about human nature and what's really important in the world.
Boehmer's rendition is top notch. Each character is unique. His delivery ranges from forceful to subtle and more than once I found myself pausing and rewinding just to marvel in a narrative moment he created.
I am very excited to dive into book three of this trilogy!

Stands out in the crowd of epic fantasies
Revisado: 06-04-12
I love epic fantasy series. You can get so involved in the story and the characters for so long; the best form of entertainment I can think of/ the best way to pass time. The problem is, a lot of them are not really well written. I couldn't get through more than the first two books of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Everything seemed so cliche and predictable, the characters were fun but seemed naive.
This is the first I have read from Hobb's series, but I am certain it will be far better. At times the suspense had me at the edge of my seat. The characters and their trials seem real. The narration is excellent.

The narration is perfect for a nostalgic listen
Revisado: 04-26-12
Sally Darling does an excellent job reading this little series. I prefer single-voice performances and hers captures the characters and emotions just how I imagine them. I read these books in middle-school and this audio edition captures perfectly the feeling of getting cozy for a bed-time story read by my mom.
The story is great too. I've never read other work by McCaffrey, but these are some of my favorite young-adult fantasy books out there. The characters are real and you really care about them as they heroically face all the troubles the world throws their way. On top of that; the stories have enough suspense, political intrigue, interesting peripheral characters, etc. to keep listeners of any age interested.

Almost as much fun as watching the show!
Revisado: 04-11-12
I grew up watching Doctor Who late at night on PBS. I've always loved the mix of adventure, suspense, and nerdy problem solving, mixed in with plenty of quirky characters and laughable alien costumes. The only thing you really lose here is the costumes. However, because it is so short, I think the TV episodes actually develop the characters (even the disposable ones) better than this story (perhaps if I read more of them?).
Narrated by my all-time favorite Doctor, this book is an excellent surrogate for, or companion to, actually watching old episodes. Baker's mischievous smile comes through in this, even when he's the one describing it.

Loved it as a kid, still a good read.
Revisado: 11-11-11
This series is just plain fun. The characters are witty and exemplify good morals. The plot is fun and moves along a a good clip. It's full of little inside jokes and references to classic stories.
The narration is really very good, but some of the voices seemed a little off or forced to me, especially the dragons.
