I really wanted to like this one

This book had all kinds of indicators in its description that made me think it was right up my alley. However, I just found it disappointing. I think the most obvious problem, as an audiobook, was the narrator. I'm sorry to say I found her delivery lacking. What really annoyed me was the way she read the voices for the male characters. It was so forced and artificial, I couldn't buy it. There was a male character who was an MIT-educated software developer, and he sounded like a whiny surfer dude. Why? This may be a cosmetic sort of criticism, but it really bugged me. The story itself I found to be "just okay," not awful, but not terribly gripping either. I didn't hate it.

awful

This book was horrendous, absurd, and nonsensical. I should have checked this before downloading; I regret it and want that time back. It's an awful, nonsensical "mystical" "New Age" story that is terribly written. It makes no sense. It's insulting to anyone with a terminal illness. I felt like my intelligence was insulted. I'm sorry. I really disliked this one.

so much fun, and surprisingly touching

This audiobook I think was the only one for which I HAD to drop everything and finish listening to that day. How can you not love Kathy Griffin, who makes an art of being confessional, reading her own autobiography?

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Barbara Rosenblat did a fantastic job reading it. Although there was a great deal of suspense, I have to say it was one of those books that you don't actually want to finish because the journey was so enjoyable. I have since listened to two more Laura Lippman books, which I have also enjoyed. This one is well worth the time and cost.

fun mystery that made me hungry!

I was unfamiliar with this series, but I enjoyed the audiobook. Barbara Rosenblat is a great narrator, although I had trouble visualizing how her voice matched the physical description of the character. This is, I'm sure, purely my own quirk, and should not be taken as a general criticism. It was a fun mystery that certainly kept up the suspense.

thrilling and suspenseful

I don't know how this book managed to be as suspenseful as it was, when the reader knows the ending early on. And yet, the novel still had me on the edge of my seat. The Irish accent is so pleasant to listen to. The narrators were fantastic. It's definitely worth it to listen to this one.

Best audiobook ever

I am keenly aware of the discomfort of hearing so-called Black dialect written by a white woman. And yet, the story itself is amazing, gripping, and told with such a beautiful command of voice that the reader/listener genuinely feels like she knows the characters. It's one of those books where I felt
I could see every room described, every person, every setting. The cliche is true for this book: I laughed, I cried.

Charming

"Charming" is the first word that comes to mind. It's an old-fashioned word that I don't use often, but the story is old-fashioned, out of the ordinary, and completely charming. It made me want to visit Guernsey, that's for sure!

If you like fast-paced thrillers, this is a great one. I bought this book to kick off my Audible membership; we had a road trip to take, and I wanted an exciting audiobook for the drive. Although the level of violence makes it almost painful to listen to, it is definitely an exciting book. The trip felt like nothing.

It's an entertaining book. I was drawn in right away; I felt like a friend of Julie's, rooting her on through her story. Yes, I got this audiobook after seeing the movie, which I also enjoyed. Without cynicism, it's a fantastic, absorbing audiobook.
