Non-interesting
Revisado: 03-20-25
Narrator was average; no performing; just reading. (Yawn)
The story seems to repeat itself in the first two hours. If I can’t get engaged in the first two hours, then I’ll quit listening.

Opioids-yes, narrator-no
Revisado: 01-29-25
The tragic stories of opioids should be written into many, many books until we become more aware and no longer have an opioid epidemic.
However, poor choice of the narrator. He’s rather bland and monotone. Wish he’d perform the story with more emotion. l

Poor narrator
Revisado: 01-22-25
The book was slow at the beginning. But then it got better
However, their narration ruined the book for me. The main character sounded like a “sad sack“ for the entire book. It reminded me of Eeyore from the Winnie the Pooh movie.

No need to scream
Revisado: 01-22-25
Good story.
However, a performance is bad and irritating when the volume of a character gets so loud that I have to turn down my volume. This happened with the judge shouting in the early part of the book.
I believe a good narrator can perform “anger” without raising the volume of his/her voice so much to the extent that it physically hurts a listener’s ear.

Narrator spoke too fast
Revisado: 01-06-25
Even when I slowed it down to .9, the narrator still spoke too fast.
In addition, the narrator BARELY made distinctions in the voices of characters.
Moreover, the story itself was blah; a mix of various tiresome plots.

Historia
Convicted serial killer Benjamin Fisher has finally offered to lead San Bernardino detective Daniel Ellis to the isolated graves of his victims. One catch: he'll only do it if FBI profiler Reni Fisher, his estranged daughter, accompanies them. As hard as it is to exhume her traumatic childhood, Reni can’t say no. She still feels complicit in her father’s crimes.

In between "murder mystery " and "sci-fi"
Revisado: 11-29-24
The story was good...until Anne Frasier incorporated her talent into writing it. Her books are just quite over the edge of believable. After I listen to her books, I always end up feeling like I read a book of horror; almost sci-fi ish. Too many gruesome murders with a not-quite believable solve for them.

Verbose and wandering
Revisado: 11-22-24
Performances were great.
Book started out good. But the storyline was all over the place. New characters were thrown into the story randomly without adding much to the overall plot. (Mr Baldacci seems to do this quite a bit in his books)

Too gruesome
Revisado: 06-01-24
Performances were good.
But there were lots of divergents from the plot that had nothing to do with the story.
I have listened to many books by this author and have found all of them overdone w gruesome details that were unnecessary.

Historia
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.
