Bad on so many levels
Revisado: 01-30-22
Only redeemnig factor here is the excellent Ray Porter performance. But the book is absolutely horrendous. The story is so sterotypical it could have been churned out by a computer algorithm. No effort made at all in developing characters or researching the plot. for a 5 and half hour book, I think I dozed thru 2 hours or more and did not even care to rewind. It was that dull. And for the record, Afghans are NOT Arab.

Avoid this book
Revisado: 10-08-21
Aliens. Ex military protagonists. Not too distant future. Humanity trying against all the odds to thwart off an existential threat of inter-galactic proportions. But the real ordeal was finishing the book.
Very flimsy, implausible storyline. Every cliche in the genre is thrown in for good measures. The snooze inducing narration would frequently fade in the back ground as I find myself loosing concentration. Then when I realize this, I decide it's not worth rewinding. Yes it was that bad. Waring. Avoid this book.

Super Lousy
Revisado: 02-19-20
Every cliche in the genre is there. Literally forced myself to finish it. Flimsy, bland, totally unrelateable plot. Not a single part of this novel is even remotely captivating. No character building. No world building. very predictable twists, if you could call them that. All in all, a total waste of time, and Audible credits.

Historia
When former soldier Everett Cole signed on to help colony planets prepare for joining the Federation, his employers were more than a bit vague about their identity and his duties. Ditto when - 11 light-years from Earth - he met his partner, Edgar Millen, an enigmatic man with a fetish for the mythology and language of the American Wild West. It wasn’t until they reached the colony world of Astrild that the mission became clear (somewhat). Cole and Millen were hired guns, tasked with removing impediments to order and justice - the methodology left open-ended.

Why Olan why!
Revisado: 05-08-19
I wouldn't classify this as science fiction at all. A Western probably. Regardless of the classification, the premise is implausible. It's a very inferior replica of Thorensen's masterclass, Destiny's Crucible. While the Destiny series is fresh and creative and is well anchored by a very convincing premise, this new series floats aimlessly in an ocean of irrationality. The writer fails to reconcile futuristic technologies that make the plot possible with the isolated and antiquated nature of that very plot.
If somehow you manage to get over this issue (I couldn't), the story itself is relatively fast paced and mildly entertaining. But the more you get into the story the more it conflicts with the premise.
This is certainly not one of Thorensen's better works.

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Revisado: 06-05-18
I really do not understand the point of this book. Flimsy story, zero background, unrelatable characters, zero twists,......And to top it off, a completely awful performance!
It was so bad I feel let down by Audible's rating for this book. My advice: Steer away.
