Historia
New York socialite Caroline Ferriday has her hands full with her post at the French consulate and a new love on the horizon. But Caroline’s world is forever changed when Hitler’s army invades Poland in September 1939—and then sets its sights on France. An ocean away from Caroline, Kasia Kuzmerick, a Polish teenager, senses her carefree youth disappearing as she is drawn deeper into her role as courier for the underground resistance movement. In a tense atmosphere of watchful eyes and suspecting neighbors, one false move can have dire consequences.

Disturbing but so worth the read

Very sad part of Nazi history I was not aware of. Well done, both by the author & the narrators. Had to speed it up to tolerate the slow reading though.

Shakked makes you feel like you are there!
Revisado: 11-10-22
Loved the book and the author narrator! Well done on all counts! Shakked speaks from the heart and with such passion for her country! Her storytelling is on point and draws you into the life she has experienced! Israel is definitely on the bucket list! Hopefully when there, I'll have a chance to visit at least one of these "secret" parts of Israel!

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

An Absolute Must Read!!!
Revisado: 06-26-20
The story was so well done, going back and forth between the past and the present!! You feel as if you are right there with them, from the struggles of Nazi occupied Poland, to their arrival in America!! Narrator was one of the best ever!! Absolutely one of the Top Ten books I've ever read or listened to!

This book is so well written, creates very vivid word pictures. Definitely holds your attention!! You won't be disappointed, except maybe with the narrator's attempted accent.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Tom Hanks is great narrator!
Revisado: 05-06-20
Interesting story line but a little weak on substance. I'll definitely look for books narrated by Tom Hanks.
