This entire series is fantastic. The characters are lovable and relatable and the storytelling is excellent. So excellent that when the head asshole in charge finishes the book off with a gigantic cliffhanger, you want to strangle him with his computer cord, or throw a beer can at him. This is a series worth delving into. The first book: Columbus Day is a bit slow going at first but is worth the exposition. Do yourself a favor and get it.

Second time trying to read a Scalzi book.

I tried to read the book “Redshirts” because I liked the premise. I couldn’t get past the syntax. The prolific use of “he said” and “she said” was so annoying to me I couldn’t enjoy the story. I do like Wil Wheaton though. So I gave Salzi another chance.
This book has no troublesome and repetitive syntax choices. The story is solid and the characters are well developed in a short time. I specifically like that the female characters are thought out and not just thrown in as sex toys or ways to further the plot through death. I look forward to the next book.

I wanted to like it

I really did want to like it. We are big Tom Hanks fans but the stories were pretty mundane. I only get halfway through the second story before I gave up.

When was it supposed to get good?

I knew who the kidnapper was from the moment he was introduced. There simply weren’t enough characters to keep you guessing. Also, every single character was one dimensional. You knew all about them all at once. I didn’t even like or sympathize with the main character very much and her back story has a lot to be sympathetic about. It’s super hard to believe that she could have fallen through the cracks THAT MUCH. She truly does EVERYTHING she possibly can to screw herself over and you get really tired of being let down by her. But I digress. It was pretty bad.

Such an amazing

And heart wrenching story. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interestedly in tales from the Second World War. It was genuinely difficult for me to stop this book to go back to real life. I was always looking forward to picking it it up again.

Could not get past the angst way that narrator portrays all the characters. I think if I can get past the telling of the story I might like it. But I have to stop three chapters in because every character seems to be the worst.
