Historia
Ken Follett follows up his number one New York Times best seller Fall of Giants with a brilliant, pause-resisting epic about the heroism and honor of World War II, and the dawn of the atomic age. Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and World War II.

A captivating story with a history lesson

Another great achievement by Ken Follett. I thought the first novel was a bit better but this was still terrific.

Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

Brings World War I alive with fascinating characters.

I love the audiobook format for this novel as the narrator has a terrific range of accents and voices. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

A story much needed in my life
Revisado: 01-27-25
Another one for hopeful feminists! Thank you Bonnie Garmus for your well-researched & insightful look into the challenges women scientists faced in the 60s, some of which persist to this day. An enjoyable and compelling story, one that kept me excited for the next day's reading. I can't wait to see what you write next.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Twilight but with Dragons and sex
Revisado: 12-13-24
As my title indicates, I thought this had a lot of the feel of that popular vampire saga, but with dragons and rated X relations. I loved the storyline, I loved some of the plot twists. I think I would’ve enjoyed this much better in print. The female narrator was OK, but the male narrator at the very end for the excerpts was way too old to be reading for a 20 something youth. Additionally some of the writing is a little bit cringe. Sometimes the protagonist was a bit whiny. But the most difficult part of the story were the inconsistencies. One minute the dragons are in the heads of the humans the next minute they have private rated R thoughts and the dragons can’t hear. I just didn’t like all the plot holes. I would still recommend it, but if you can get it through the library that might be better than paying for it.

Historia
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

Protagonist annoying
Revisado: 10-02-24
Due to a mixture of both the performance and the writing, I couldn’t stand the protagonist. The character was written very weak, and the narration made her seem even more annoying and weak. I could barely finish the book I wanted to find out the ending, so at least it was suspenseful, but could not wait to be done with this.

Entertaining format

Perfect story for an audible novel. Loved the format of the story and the cast. Definitely couldn’t stop listening. Twisted plot, but also thankfully not the kind that keeps you up at night with anxiety.
